Found 2 other Terre Thaemlitz records: Soil and Tranquilizer. (yep, you know I can obsess)

Less house-y and more dark-ambient-y. At least to my newbie ears. I prefer her later work. Gslob, of course I want to hear what you think about these 2 records.

Bought Midtown 120 Blues straight from Comatonse website. Can't think of an electro record I've ever been so in.

Howdy chaps. Been a while. Long AFK due to various things - a lot or work, motocrossing across Thailand, record shopping in Romania and London, Isle of Man trip. Only got back around 4 days ago. Will check out this thread in a bit to see what I missed and answer whatever questions, and nice to know good people like Gekko are still buying music. Anyhooz, will post some of the shit I've been listening to since getting back. Will post more later on, once I've gone through my lists and whatnot. Cheerz.

^ Thanks for the huge list. Thanks to the commute, I've been enjoying many of the mixes you posted before. You made me register on Soundcloud just to download them all, you bad man.

That said, downloading these goodies now.

^ Did you register on Soundcloud because they changed to having a pop-up that asked you to register when you clicked the "download" icon? If that's the case, there's a trick you can use (on desktop class browsers only, not sure about mobile) to download without registering. Not talking about YoutubeDL because that just grabs the stream version which is usually limited to 96 or 128 kbps. What you should do is click on the "Share" button instead. Once the little fade-in window thing appears, click the "Embed" tab on top. Once you get the embed options, you should see a download arrow somewhere in the picture. Click that and you'll be able to download the full quality 320 kbps version (or whatever max quality the uploader set) like you used to before.

Also, does Comatonse still stock Midtown 120 Blues? I thought the initial two runs (2008 & 2014, iirc) sold out and Terre allowed Skylax Records to release the new 2015 run. Or was I mistaken? In any case, the Japanese Comatonse version should come with some pretty fold-out newspaper style posters. Oh, I'll comment on Soil and Tranquilizer a bit later.

For now, free Four Tet album (or sorts); http://fourtet.bandcamp.com/album/randoms

@Gslob

Yes, I registered to download the streams and upload them on my lame mp3 reader. Didn't know about that trick, thanks.

Sprinkles already sent the package. :)
I wasn't sure the record was available, so I went on with the order anyway actually expecting a "sold-out!" reply. You can imagine how happy I am, of course. Also, just want to buy it straight from her to be sure I know where my money goes. I already planned to buy at least a couple of more goodies from the website. Just waiting for my wage first.

Oh, and since you bought records in London, any recommendations? I'm going there on Thursday and sure as hell am going to look for shops and records.

I wonder how the mood will be at London, post Brexit. Some of my mates there are like "same ol' same old" while others are like "this is the worst day of my life". Pretty surreal.

Anyways, hope you have a good trip. Are you asking for recs for record stores or LPs?
If it's record stores, I suppose the first place you should go to is Phonica. Yeah, it's the boring predictable recommendation, but really, they have a very good selection for most of the "alternative culture" type genres. Frankly, for me, a day isn't enough. They just have so much stock, and new stock comes in at least twice a week. Also have in-store parties during weekends, usually featuring some pretty decent selectors. I'd rather have an early evening out at Phonica instead of visiting stuffy clubs nowadays, but that might just be my old age. You can also check out their blog for some extra info and sign up for the newsletter.

Aside from that, you have Honest Jons which is a good place for some funk or dub raggae, though they also usually have a decent amount of Detroit and German house and techno. A bit more quaint but one I can never miss would be Alan's Records which isn't huge, but sometimes you can find a lost gem for a bargain (by London retail standards, at least). Also make a trip to Berwick Street, where you'll find about half a dozen stores - Reckless and Sister Ray probably being the most notable. Then you have Rough Trade which is a bit of a hipster's choice these days (mostly the West store), but you can't really argue with their selection.

Oh, and for just good music experiences (all genres), you could visit a few of these places. Just visit their websites to check their events;
Cafe Oto
Brilliant Corners
Spiritland

Edit:
If you're free Friday night, this is what I'd recommend;

Wow, thanks a lot, noted everything. Berwick Street is pretty close to a pub with vegan food where we already planned to go.

I'll be there from Thursday to Monday morning, so plenty of time to go around shops. And if you have any suggestions about records (lps, cds, whatever), feel free. I am going to stick with electronic music, because I have still plenty to buy and learn.

^ You're vegan?... and you hang out at THIS forum?!!

Frankly, the best thing about record store visits is the digging. There's always a chance you'll find something that's the best thing ever despite no one hearing of it. That's the beauty.

The only hint I have with regards to what you like (aside from Burial) is Sprinkles. Similar sounds would your countryman Donato Dozzy, Theo Parrish, Floating Points, and possibly some of the stuff released by labels like Giegling or Mule Musiq, and maybe Perlon, though that's probably venturing onto the minimal side already. I'm on the phone right now and it's cumbersome to link shit, so could you check out Discogs or Resident Advisor for their discography, and then try searching on Soundcloud or Youtube?

Also, right click and "save link as" on this. Take a listen, and tell me if it's your thing;
http://audio.ra.co/podcast/RA514_160404 ... or.net.mp3

Also this, for Donato Dozzy;
http://www.drift-ashore.de/fundstuecke/ ... -under-120

Edit:
Also, I bought every LP I could find from these guys on my last trip;
https://soundcloud.com/search?q=chaos%20in%20the%20cbd
A bit less dub and soul than the typical Sprinkles production, but the jazz strong and the vibe similar.

^ Yes, these guys let me stay here despite my diet. ;)

Thanks for the advices. Downloading the links, I'll get back here as soon as I listened to them. Also, to give another hint about my tastes: I liked "Soho (aka The Arab) @ KeepItDeep" and "Happy Skull - Air Mix 004: E-Roy" from your previous selections -- but I haven't listen to all the others yet.

Mainly I'll go looking for house and/or deep-house. That's the sounds I'm getting more into.

Edit: listening to the RA podcast right now. Yes, my kind of stuff. Probably more minimal than what I am more accustomed to, but again, I'm only a newbie so plenty of room to widen my taste.

Edit2: love how this podcast "grows and grows". Yes, definitely my kind of stuff.

Edit3: very uplifting ending. Great stuff.

12" only. Sadly, those red dots mean they're out of stock. :(
Btw, I'm certain I linked one of their mixes on this thread (was a Phonica Podcast, iirc), so you might want to check it out. I love their stuff. I'm also pretty sure I bought the last copy of their latest LP, Sword Dance at Phonica when I was there, so my fault I suppose. :/

So, Giegling.... Good luck, all red. >_<
http://www.phonicarecords.com/label/gie ... atest/desc
Note, this only means they're sold out at Phonica. Could be available at the other stores. Their CD full length album releases (eg: Edward, Kettenkarussell, Matthias Reiling, etc) aren't as hard to find as their 12" versions.

My favourite deep house LP of 2016, Radiq - Rhapsody;
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hIt8Tiw ... ZA0rzrfOa1
I got mine shipped from Japan, but you could try looking in London. 12" only, afaik.

Leif Knowles first two full length albums;
http://fearofflying.bandcamp.com/album/dinas-oleu
http://leifknowles.bandcamp.com/album/taraxacum
Note: I recommend buying vinyl only for collecting purposes, or if you plan to rip from the record directly. If not, then I'd recommend buying digital instead of CD, since quality is the same (provided you buy the lossless version) and it's just cheaper anyway. I only ever buy the CDs if the label doesn't offer digital downloads (eg; Mule, Comatonse, Giegling, etc)

Floating Points - Elaenia;
http://floatingpoints.tmstor.es/index.p ... ection=all
Being the jazz-head you are, I can pretty much guarantee you'll like this. Buy directly from official site if you want digital. Phonica has CD and 12" versions in stock. Vinyl costs £1.99 more at Phonica (£16.99 vs £15.00 from site) which is a pretty small markup considering you'd need to pay postage if ordering it online. Btw, if you chance upon his lovely Shadows EP, I suggest you jump on it.

Lastly, Mule Musiq. Yes, the same Mule Musiq that first released Midtown 120 Blues;
http://www.phonicarecords.com/label/mul ... atest/desc
Phonica only feature a fraction of Mule's catalog, but surprisingly have a lot still in stock. The "I'm Starting to Feel Okay" compilations (7 released so far, CD and vinyl only, they don't offer digital downloads) are probably a good introduction to the label if you're interested.

Fantastic.

Now stop, otherwise missus will kill me if I spend too much time in the shops. Although I can safely leave her at the Tate Modern while digging records. ;)

GekkoP wrote:Now stop
I would, but realized I somehow lost an entire paragraph of store recommendations. No idea how that happened. So here's a few more stores. I'll keep it as brief as I can.

Daltson - Kristina Records
Sadly, I ran out of time and couldn't visit them this last trip, but all my previous trips there were fruitful. You get the sense they really like what they do. Well categorized, decent stock, both new and second hand.

Pearson Street - Love Vinyl
Not the biggest collection, nor are they quite a digger's paradise, but there's definitely stuff to be found.

Rye Lane, Peckham - YAM Records, Rye Wax, & Do!!You!! Records
They're all located about a couple hundred meters from each other, so if you visit one, might as well visit all. Pretty cool establishments (Bussey Building) around the area in general.

Soho - Sounds of the Universe
Very African influenced in terms of vibe and selection, though they do stock electronica as well.

All listed above are multi-genre, but have decent selections of electronica. Many other stores have sprouted up in London recently but I didn't list them due to their more genre specific stock. You can of course just search around yourself. Turnstyle Records on Streatham High Rd specializes on jazz, though not really that much, and feels a bit elitist. Another joint somewhere in West Norwood whose name I can't remember that specializes in UK psychedelic and folk and has the nutter owner who thinks he's a pro bartender (he's not). Sacred Grooves, also in Peckham, never seems to be open (locals say Friday and Saturday only, but I never had the chance) and supposedly has a lot of rare Soul, Raggae, West African and Balkan records. Soul Brother Records in East Putney has (like you guessed) a lot of soul and funk. Eldica, somewhere in the Daltson area, has a surprising amount (considering the store size) of second hand jazz fusion, soul, disco and funk records.

Ok, I'm done. Have fun, Gekkossimo.

Now I'm going to excuse myself and drown my sorrows. Valentino Rossi just crashed out of the lead in Assen. I blame Rhowaldt for all that rain!!

Recorded live. Analog synths, samplers and drum machines. Completely improvised. Style-wise, not something I could listen to all night (too hard and bleepy), but the sheer confidence these guys have to pull off stuff like this on the fly is quite impressive;

- Donato Dozzy sounds like my cup of tea (whatever that means)
- the 2 Pluie Noir podcasts are awesome
- The White Man and the Arab @ Phonica you posted before is superb

There, a happy man here. Now packing my stuff, 3 hours of sleep, and then it's London baby.

See ya next week.
