The Sounds Around

Unread post by dkeg » Mon Sep 22, 2014 1:07 am

I am inspired by artists that capture everyday sounds for consumption, whether mixed with music, action, or just plain as they come.

This thread is dedicated to the everyday sounds around us.

Is there a good and easy may to get plain audio files linked or uploaded? Youtube complains of it only being audio. I'm using my iPhone to record audio. As of now, I'm sharing to myself, downloading, converting to mp3, and uploading to, well, copy for now. Hopefully this works.
May not be quite the awesome idea I was hoping for if its just this fucking hard. We can try though right?

Edit: searching around. found Clyp, has an iPhone and Android app, but seems to only allow sharing thru fB and twitter from mobile. Can upload thru web though. I'll keep looking

Don't know if this is good or easy but ffmpeg can make a video from an mp3 plus image.
Googling found this:
http://www.labnol.org/internet/useful-f ... nds/28490/
but running his command got I errors (on Wheezy), and a suggestion to use avconv instead, which worked!

Code: Select all

 avconv -loop 1 -i african\ headcharge.jpg -i 01\ Free\ Chant\ \(Churchical\ Chant\ Of\ The\ Iyabinghi\).mp3 -c:v libx264 -c:a aac -strict experimental -b:a 192k -shortest output.mp4
The original mp3 was 4.9MB, image 45K and output .mp4 was 6MB so it didn't bloat out too much. Youtube will take mp4s OK.
All code is one.

Thanks. YT is finicky about upload not allowing sound only upload. Even converted to wmv but no luck.
I have recorded a few items. When I'm motivated I can upload somewhere.
Thanks for the suggestions

What John said. You just need a static image an all is well. If you are on a desktop PC system with Windows, you can use Movie Maker. In Linux of course the choice is avidemux, kino, openshot, kdenlive, ... there are a few more. I would try as John said, with avconf/ffmpeg.
..gnutella..
