In case you don't know about him, I heartily recommend watching some of André Rieu's concerts, like the one in Brazil: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k29G6gdNPXc

He has a light and cheerful approach to classical music and draws crowds like only few people can.

I don't have an ear to discern if his orchestra is symphonic level, but it's close enough for me.

@rho: Moonlight Sonata is one of my favorites as well. You can not beat these songs, that is why they are so famous. True music, it is the universal language that all can understand.

@slartie: did you know Andre Rieu is Dutch? 2nd, did you know Sir Anthony Hopkins is an amateur composer and wrote a waltz himself, and his dream was to have Andre Rieu play it, which he did: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1LGVGekPSzo (i believe this is the clip with Mr Hopkins in the audience). it is a really good piece of music as well. cool shit.
Oh yes, more trivia: Andre Rieu was pretty much bankrupt because he is such a perfectionist that he insists on travelling together with all his sets and all the original costumes etc, costing him many moneys worth of shipping costs etc :)

@rho, yep and yep. He's from Limburg or something. I listen to "And the waltz goes on" from time to time. It really is a great piece.

Didn't know about the money troubles, but I can believe it :)

Not only is she having fun, but she's a very skilled classical pianist. In turn she reminds me of one of my countrymen, Victor Borge. But then I think we'd need an entirely different thread.
