Classic Rock (1969)

Unread post by machinebacon » Tue Dec 23, 2014 5:00 am

Grand Funk Railroad, with their second album. Not the best band ever, but on par with their abilities. Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MT6Pl-uq9sA

From the same year, with a similar smell, but technically better, are Yes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-e8nVibQfOo

It's quite obvious if you listen to these two albums in comparison. There's a quality difference for sure - I do like this Yes album for personal reasons (and for an excellent bassist) ;)

For 1969, the Easy Rider soundtrack has to be mentioned: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3dvBjKr2LcY -- first track dedicated to Rhowaldt.

Talking of the Netherlands, this is Shocking Blue At Home: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zdcBXYzGDAQ Not really hard rock, but yeah.

Also not the hardest band ever, but still rock: Free with their first (?) album: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kVnEEd03AbY Solid work, bit too much blues smell IMO.

The swamp rockers from California, Creedence Clearwater Revival came with two (IMO great) albums. One is Bayou Country (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xD8LRBpUZAg) and the Green River later the same year (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5SI8tbgnYuc). There's no other band that sounds like that. Good or bad, that's personal opinion of course ;)

Of course The Who needs a mention with Tommy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fpDw3s7XJKo

The old Mark I of Deep Purple sounded like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yT5Xv2p0f0M
Not 100% my cup of tea in this setup. They sound much like Uriah Heep two years later.

This is Crow with Evil Woman (later covered by Black Sabbath): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=keIN89yIdIQ

Oh, this is funny: Iron Maiden sounded like this in 1969: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_SJ-4-ev4Dw (nah, not *the* Iron Maiden you probably thought of ;)

Iggy Pop had a band those days, called The Stooges (yeah sure you know that) - that's how they sounded: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vH6iDPhUjWs

Weird obscure shit I just found (they were listed in the YT suggestions, so I leave this here for my own reference):
Bakerloo - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lRxnQZBy74c
Andromeda - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4kmAck4fsFk
Brainbox - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S5gxq_U7ykE
The Velvet Fogg - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0pnQda5DMkg
Cromagnon: Orgasm - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=36Srmk7JYlI (weird shit!)
Valhalla: Hard Times - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b3w8MeMXEe8
Blue Cheer - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ypgIrRhNh0Q

Of course a thousand things are missing, just making a start here :)

What a coincidence, listening to a 1969 track right now, even though it is Turkish. At least in my tags I read 69, hmmm.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NQNPdS77vpk

The "Ah ah ah..." sounds similarly to Led Zeppelin's Whole Lotta Love.

Love knows no borders ;)

Rory Gallagher's "Taste" - that's soooo typical 60's rock: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RfkU-E4i7lQ

Cream said "Goodbye" (within reason) in 1969: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f3-k0yyyr8E

Traffic found the 'Last Exit", too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DC6IGLPF03Y (bit too much softener here)

For the soft penises here: Jethro Tull's "Stand up" ;) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c_gK4NjK0yI

And for the schizo's: King Crimson: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y4eRpwRJgzk

My all-time favorite classic rock band scored this essential record on 1969:

Grateful Dead - Live Dead https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=POEw-2vAojk

And another favorite of mine:

High Tide - Sea Shanties https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DHIQkfp0s68

Ah. My favorite Creedence Clearwater Revival song was Susie Q., from early 1968. Wrong year, but great song.

fantastic. just started an Electric Guitar thread because i didnt see this first. anyway, that will be for electric through the ages, despite how many tracks on here will fit there too. who cares? not me.

@Julesy:

1. great, havent seen Easy Rider in a loooong time, and didnt even remember that song, The Pusher. good shit, thanks for that.
2. that Shocking Blue is shockingly good. i just know 1 song by them, "Venus". this is cool.
3. i recently realized that many people might not have heard much Dutch produced music. i figured you guys would probably dig some of it. will start a thread.
4. everybody who loves music and wonderful people should check out Iggy Pop's radio show on BBC6: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b03yblbx (sadly not all episodes available, but if you check Iggy's BBC Playlister playlist you will find all the tracks he played)
5. just adding a 5th point to satisfy the Law of Fives: http://discordia.wikia.com/wiki/Law_of_Fives - "all things relate in some way to the number five given enough ingenuity on the part of the observer."

thank you, good night.

Didn't remember The Pusher? I can still play it in my head, hearing it just like it was on a stereo.

Another progressive rock classic, King Crimson's In the Court of the Crimson King came out in 1969, with Greg Lake on vocals and bass (Lake would go on to Emerson, Lake, and Palmer) and the genius Robert Fripp on guitar. Headphones should be used to fully appreciate this album. The Mellotron (a strange analog sampling instrument) was used heavily.

The "Ah ah ah..." sounds similarly to Led Zeppelin's Whole Lotta Love.
The coincidence again, the song Whole Lotta Love is actually from 1969, Led Zeppelin II, a great album with epic songs like Communication Breakdown, Heartbraker, Ramble On etc.
