Classic Rock (1971)

Unread post by ivanovnegro » Sat Jan 10, 2015 6:26 pm

One of the best albums, Led Zeppelin IV with some classics like Stairway to Heaven sure but we want the good stuff. :P

Real Rock'n'Roll, Rock and Roll: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0WzG64syKHA

and Black Dog:

My childhood. One of my first discs of Led Zeppelin. I still have it on CD, it was the time of compact discs back then in the 90s IIRC. :)
The real men have that on LP from the 70s.

^ Love it. Roundabout is the song that made me fall in love with the Rickenbacker bass sound.

1971 was also the year of the best-sold album for around 20 years or more: Carole King's Tapestry (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aJn3QJYYBr0) -- it is not rock at all, but should b mentioned for a few European friends.

Every picture tells a story, says Rod Stewart (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c1szgbHU6ZA). Getting harder :D But still no 'morning glory' ;)

Badfinger sing for the song. No rock still. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WmLpt1YuFFs

Alice Cooper, very classic shitty rock & roll, had their Killer album (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7S3TzhFSSjI)

T. Rex and some lousy glam rock -- they had an Electric Warrior. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s3bRl5fx8Eo

Thin Lizzy pushed out their self-title album: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YRNz1cOUmI0 -- no real head-banger.

Jethro Tull maybe with Aqualung? We're getting closer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wUEA5NWlQU0

Black Sabbath will save this post for the hairy sweaty ones, I promise -- Master of Reality: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xRKGKXL1seE

Not enough Gibson? Let there be Carlos! This is his 3rd album: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FE62FXrNj28

Not much can top Led Zep's IV (being a real man I had a Russian import of it on vinyl from Communist years - they were super-cheap in Hungary, so I must have bought the disc in the late 80s), but here's a good competitor: Fireball by Deep Purple (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wJ_JvzfhodQ)

And a little bonus for the Balkan friends, this is Locomotiv GT (the Eastern Bloc surely remembers): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DMMehhTpW6M

^ What a post.

Yes, I like Thin Lizzy. Master of Reality, my all time fave from Black Sabbath, yep. As for Locomotiv, not really know them but heard of them. But Ex-Yu (now they call it West-Balkans) was not in the bloc, maybe that is the reason.

Edit: Very good idea to post the whole albums if available. Will do that the next time.

Chris Squire, of course. If you haven't heard his solo work, check out Lucky Seven (in 7/8 time), Hold Out Your Hand, and Silently Falling, from Fish Out Of Water (1975, so slightly off-topic) -- Mel Collins (who also played with King Crimson and several other progressive bands) plays alto sax on Lucky Seven. Bill Bruford plays drums, with another very distinctive sound. Bruford plays just enough drum, but never too much.

They were big in GDR, Poland and Cuba (?!). Some HUN bands managed to rock YU too, that was Skorpio (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9jT1nfTRMK8), for example. If a band was not regime-friendly to the HUN commies, they were sent to do 8 months long tours in the USSR.
