Soundtracks
Soundtracks
this is a separate thread dealing with sounds (music or fx) created for (film/theatre/game/don'tcare) soundtracks.
first of all, i'd like to start off with some making-of stuff.
Hans Zimmer - making of Interstellar soundtrack: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L_8t2VlwK4w
Soundworks: The sound of The Last of Us: https://vimeo.com/68455513 (check out all of Soundworks videos on Vimeo, cool shit there)
another thing i often find interesting is when a "regular" artist suddenly makes a filmscore. one example is Alexander Ebert of Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes (of "Home" fame, beautifully done here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L64c5vT3NBw), who did the soundtrack for the wonderful film "All is lost" (starring Robert Redford and only Robert Redford): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=efB3-Ik1wKY
i know many of you already posted some soundtrack stuff in various other threads. reposting it here is of course absolutely no problem. i figure each thread in this subforum is like a sort of index, and indexes can overlap in categories.

Re: Soundtracks
Not big into soundtracks, but I own two.
Strange Days: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2tIeZOV ... A64BDCDC67
Lost in Translation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LFQqR6d ... E7BAB44D25
I have posted the clip for "Alone in Kyoto" before, but here it is again: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7xfb5vYxYk4
I don't care what triple-h says, I loved Lost in Translation, and hated 21 grams.

Re: Soundtracks
probably a repost, I only like a few things :)
this opening theme makes me cry, when that shakuchi hits, and then damn it hits again.
Willow (James Horner) - http://youtu.be/pRskpDvjrIM
Pretty much any Lalo Schiffrin:
Dirty Harry (Lalo Schiffrin)
http://youtu.be/nkqF0EED6AA?list=PLLgRX ... nLZLZGcSHX
The "OST" of this is horrible, there is an actual album where they play the songs much better, in full and just better. bit like this one;
Bullit - http://youtu.be/0WQMZFFkx6Y
There is also a Jazz cover band redo of it, doesn't quite match the smokey 'vintage' feel of this recording.

Re: Soundtracks
I'm not a soundtrack fan at all. As for 'fx only' (or mostly), I can only digest Flash Gordon: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MGrJcU-a6h0 but that's because they forced me to :)
Other soundtracks are sometimes/usually just a collection of various artists, and that would make a loooong list of unrelated shit :)

Re: Soundtracks
I really like listening to the actual soundtrack, ie record the audio of the movie.
"Flash dun dun dun AaaHaaaa" great :)

'epic' music
I'm a sucker for orchestral music, and while classical music is wonderful, a genre within orchestral, known colloquially as "epic music", is another one of my favorites.
You know the kind I'm talking about. The grand orchestral score in (insert name of film here). It has been nestled firmly inside the art pieces we see on the silver screen for a long time. However - people started buying the CD versions of the film soundtracks in increasing numbers, music producers realized there might be a market there.
Here's an example of such a track:
[yt]LRLdhFVzqt4[/yt]
Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LRLdhFVzqt4
It's been used in film and on TV several times. You feel slightly more awesome now, right? Yeah!
There's so much 'epic' music out there now that it seems fitting to give it its own spot on the shelf.
Notable creators of this type of music:
Two Steps From Hell (They made the track above)
E.S. Posthumus
Hans Zimmer
Howard Shore
John Williams (you should all know this guy!)
Audiomachine
Immediate Music
... and many many more.
This kind of music goes well with: Doing difficult homework. Every key press or pencil stroke will feel like a small victory.

Re: Soundtracks
^ darling, just made one change to your post. since some people use text-browsers or have other means of watching youtube than through flash plugins, we kinda switched from doing embedding to doing direct linkage. this also aids the quick loading of the forum pages, which tended to get fucked up slow (have a look at the "musics, bitches" thread for example).
i suppose these are all reasons you'd consider valid, so i took the liberty of adding the direct link to your embedded video directly below it. didn't wanna ruin your embed; after all, there might be aesthetical reason for using it, and i dont want to trample on anybodys self-expression ;)
