this thread is for all those tracks you hear on the radio and are considered "Popular Music" (which is a fucking terrible term but okay). they are often tracks my elitist self tells me i should hate, but that i love nonetheless. guilty pleasures, as they say (although one wonders: where is the guilt, exactly? meh).
at one point i simply decided to stop hating on pop music if i secretly enjoyed the song, because i refuse to stop myself enjoying shit just because it doesnt fit my worldview or something. so there, you might hear some shit you think "really man? really?" - yes, really :)
Taylor Swift - Trouble: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vJyKYt-5500 (live @ Victoria's Secret show, so plenty of eye candy. i fucking love it when that bass drops in - and yes, this is a prime example of how pop music borrows from other popular music genres, because that shit is blatant dubstep)
Taylor Swift - Shake it off: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nfWlot6h_JM (fuckit, this is just a great song)
Carly Rae Jepsen - Call me maybe: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KAQhG59zqZc - learned to love this through this video, the Chatroulette version. warms my heart.
Anna Kendrick - Cups: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cmSbXsFE3l8 (yeah, a cover of a different Cups thingy, but i dont care)
Katy Perry - Last Friday Night: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A4qGdIGJBzg (this song gets me ready for a party, in the rare event i am getting ready for such a thing)
Katy Perry - California Gurls: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F57P9C4SAW4
Katy Perry - Dark Horse: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6i2-nmSnqOc (again, borrowing from popular EDM, in this case the drop of the beat is the Trap genre)
a bit older:
Backstreet Boys - Everybody: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6M6samPEMpM
5ive - everybody get up: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qZUn-KtTNmA (sorry Queen-fans ;)
Jewel - Foolish Games: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UNoouLa7uxA (dont care, this is one of the most beautiful songs i know)
Vanessa Carlton - A Thousand Miles: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PN5c_uHRKIk (yes, even before seeing White Chicks, i loved this song)
so, i suppose that should set a precedent. don't think after this list anybody should feel ashamed of their musical tastes anymore ;)
