starting this thread because i seem to have developed a sudden interest in Russian music, specifically Russian folk music. I was hoping there would be some of you out who were a tad more knowledgeable in this department, and might spot me some good shit.
so far been googling a bit myself. what started it was this video of a Russian female soldier singing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6rE4d_ldZr8
That got me to "oy, da ne vecher", which Youtube tells me is "Russia's most popular folk song": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D7jzoaao6mY - a bit too dragging for my liking. But, Youtube lists the name of the artist: Pelageya. She has some nice stuff I think:
Ptashechka: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rViD7ynm-Us
Some other stuff I've found so far:
Red Army Choir - Katyusha: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y_ZjNCXB5r0
Sounds good, here's the Definitive Collection: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_L1Eh5iJBS4
very nice and theatrical.
Ivan Rebroff has some nice ones: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0dHsirjbPIA
So, it might be that I just stumbled upon a bunch of Russia's Laura Pausini's or whoever the equivalently "worst choice for this type of music dude" artist happens to be in your particular country. Therefore, if you know any little shit about the subject, let it out, and let's educate each other here.
Oh! Just stumbled upon this compilation of "Russian Gypsy Music". Only shitty thing is: no artists or song titles. But it makes for some good listening: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ju2rh-2Pkac
