Power Metal, not so much. I could see myself liking Disco-Soul Metal though. You know, like the early Alex Harvey stuff (before The Sensational Alex Harvey Band formed) but with more riffs, licks for bridges, and possibly some double-bass drum action.... oh, and platform shoes.

Question to gslob and other electro fans: could you recommend some records?
I'm ignorant as an armchair when it comes to electronic music. Yeah, I got some Aphex Twin records and something more industrial (Coil), but something else you guys love?

^ Gekko, have you checked out my electronic mixtape? other than that, you really gotta be a bit more specific as to what type of shit you're looking for. straight-up house, loud noisy shit, ambient stuff, weirdness? i can give you some names when you give me a bit of input :)

asking for "electronic music" is the same as asking for "rock" or "jazz" - too broad babe! :D

You're right. Also, your mixtape is here but still have to listen to it properly. Frankly, I don't know much about genre and style differences so maybe it would be easy this way: I want something not loudy and noisy. No trance nor techno. Something like Four Tet, something not-too-minimal-ambient-y but with a good feeling in it.
I know, I suck at describing electronic music, so maybe just tell me your favorite ones and I'll go look for them.

Gekko, that is a really broad thing but whatever. There is something reasonably popular that I enjoy, not obscure for the beginning. I love Björk. :)

Gekko: sounds like a good description, you could look at Aphex's record label - Warp, pretty much everything on there is good.
and the sub label (I think) Rephlex. slightly more edgy, in some cases possibly a lot more 8).
example:
http://youtu.be/MZWmVaTLhMY?list=PLbKJd ... 4h2EPLG4Kv
first track is a bit ambient-y - skip to the second

Old style Aphex and Mike paradinas:
http://youtu.be/hb63MzlYFvE

Stuff by luke vibert is pretty good, or Squarepusher.
my musical knowledge stops around 2004 so... maybe some newer stuff has slipped by, not too my ears.
and yes, including Aaron Funk - Rhow :p

Hmm, on a slightly more hip-hop funky feel, you might like this:

Onra
http://youtu.be/AxM_sgMM2rQ

or less electronic:
Chinese man
http://youtu.be/kqjeNSNuNPM

more electronic:

Flying Lotus.
http://youtu.be/0ScYz9sNaQk

on a similar tip:
Shigeto
http://youtu.be/LqFwW7-EfbM

bit more chilled:
Lusine
http://youtu.be/qqqsOWQXbIE

most of the artists here are good:

So yeah, some good stuff from after 2004 8)

hihihi, Gekko asks for "something not-too-minimal-ambient-y but with a good feeling in it", Wux goes on to point him in the direction of Aphex Twin. yeah yeah yeah, Collected Ambient works and all that, but you're bound to stumble on his more insane stuff :D

Yet actually, definitely give Aphex Twin - Windowlicker another listen. such a fucking great track.

Okay Gekko, diving in my archives, i've come up with a bunch of stuff for you to check out.

B. Fleischmann - Broken Monitors: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GL9HRtU_0vM
Bibio - Jealous of Roses: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5AZUW6JNChg
Black Dog Productions - Bytes (the entire album is awesome, here's one song): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S21W8f2rFGs
Jon Hopkins - Insides (album of same name): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BWBb0V_EUBU
Kidkanevil & Daisuke Tanabe - Kidsuke: http://projectmooncircle.bandcamp.com/album/kidsuke
Mark van Hoen - Where is the truth (album of same name): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y9jzcioDL9Q
Nicolaas Jaar - I got a woman: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TsDEzPcAO-A (i *think* you could do good checking out more of his stuff for sure)

(moving into a bit more overly electronic stuff now, as i switch from my "electronica" directory to my "beats" directory :)

Metome - Phreatic Surface: http://kingdeluxe.ca/phreatic-surface/
Nosaj Thing - Coat of Arms: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h768xGeMpsE
Vessel - Lache: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=or9zUyuCUMw
Holy Other - (W)here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NCxKoyl8ZEE
2562 - Channel Two: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6KttHKEgG-8
Para - Component: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ronLMyk7QIQ
Burial - Southern Comfort: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VIpnaZMa4Yg
Darkstar - Two Chords: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SiVfuC0DJv4 (check out the hyperdub label, you might like that)
Cassius - Hey babe: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mlAFl5Wlz3Y (if you like this, check out their entire album 1999)
Amon Tobin - Stoney Street: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PXvNZ45lEdE (this guy's shit has always been stellar in its detail, just listen to the drums on that track, and check out his album "Isam" or "The Foley Room" (recorded, hey, surprise, in a foley room) for more sonic experimentation)
Ricardo Donoso - Chemical Structures: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3LK24ClY3ek (you think there are beats in this, and there aren't)
Roel Funcken - Bextures Teeth: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q5ArB97LSpY
Daniel Avery - Water Jump: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zwMnzopy0Iw
Deco - Skyline: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZxJBDTSckbI

okay, i suppose that is about it for now. most of it is either very atmospheric, or just sounds nice (either melody-wise or groove-wise).
hope you like at least some of it Gekko! please let me know what you think, and always remember not every song is perfect for every situation, so try not to go with a one-listen only. a lot of this shit is detailed enough to warrant some examination. play it, play it, play it :)

^ fantastic! Actually, some names I am familiar with in there (Burial, Darkstar, Amon Tobin...), but most of them new to my ears. Thanks a lot, it'll take me a while to go through all of that.

Gekko is Italian, right?
http://www.electronique.it/

My Italian isn't the best (limited to motorsport and bed language - you know, La Dolce Figa) but some of the reviewers on this site are quite tasteful, imho. They mostly cover the housey and techy side of electronica though. Still a lot more out there.
