If it's classical, for some reason I seem to go for the lushly romantic sounds of people like Debussy, Ravel, Rimsky-Korsakoff... also Stravinsky's Rite of Spring... all those Slavic & East European composers...

(listen to blues/"world"/jazz most of the time though)

Paganini's 5th Caprice in A min, was one of the most terrible things in the world to try to learn on guitar. I spent no less than 6 straight months practicing HOURS every day to only be able to get close. That's guy had no idea of what "physically possible" should mean.

^Beastly, indeed. In fact, they were sure that Paganini was possessed by the devil.

As one of my less musically-'educated' friend put it: "this guy playing piano on LSD?"

i can recommend both albums by Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeroes. and as Wux once pointed out, Alexander's solo project is well worth it too. good stuff. i like my music filled with joyful melancholy :)

On the release day of 'Cobham': This is Lenny White, one of the early open-handed drummers. What usually drummers play with the right hand (hi-hat), open-handed drummers play with the left hand. Quite strange to look at if you compare it with the regular drumming style.
And here for you a real rarity, the 1977 "The Adventures of Astral Pirates" album. Not quite easy to digest, partly.

Rammstein do the most beautiful application of the German language.
