Damn! I am loosing myself in a Billie Eilish moment here. I were very sceptical when I herd the new Bond them the first time. But after a few listenings I must admit that there were no reason to be worried. I am completely won over. <3

Lately I am browsing a ton of stuff on Bandcamp.

Another great band from Greece.

Well, and since I don't think Italy will ever be able to bring her here, I've just bought my ticket for this: https://angelolsen.veeps.com/

I know, it's not the time to spend money for frivolous stuff, but I can live without pizza for a couple of weeks.

Imagine that I'm lucky enough to have a bit of money, should I:
a) buy a serato system and use a cheap-ish win laptop and download/stream all tunes that I want to scratch/DJ?
b) buy all the vinyl that I always wanted (and maybe a new-ish mixer)

a) means losing my old Vestax PMC-5ProII (which is a bit broken now after 10+ years tbh)
b) means more fiddling I think, but I only need to lug the 1210s around (not that I'm a portable DJ)

I'd go with b), but only because buying vinyls would be the first (well, if not the first at least the second) thing I'd do should that kind of luck come around.

Well, if you're intending to practice proper turntablism which involves heavy scratching, I doubt any of the vinyl you'd be buying will hold up as "archival" mediums anyway, right? In that sense, if DJ-ing is your primary goal, go with (a) for the flexibility, although Serato competence is highly dependent on DJ controller quality. If collecting music is the primary goal, then (b) obviously.

Do note that the planet's dying and we have an economic model built around stealing the future and selling it in the present in the name of GDP, so unless the current beervirus crisis evolves to guillotine all the billionaires, whatever you buy won't survive the coming decade's worth of natural disasters.

Cheap as chips, this - https://www.ars-direct.jp/product/190 ;-)
Yeah yeah, I know it won't do scratch or Serato, but JUST LOOK AT THE DARN THING!!

Thanks. yeah IDK.. it's probably going to be 'get the vinyl' and a newish mixer. Can't be bothered deciding about a bunch of other stuff.
at least in the end days you can still bump wu-tang clan with a needle and an old funnel if it comes to it.
Yeah, I'm djing for pleasure and just listening to albums and things. not like the system it's playing on is super hi-fi. I don't want anything amazingly ancient or rare. just hiphop/rap I never had on vinyl (hello discogs - goodbye wage).

Then I would also go with option (b). It has not to be super hi-fi. I have a 'cheap-ish' turntable and Discogs is my best friend and Bandcamp.

LOL ^ underrated posts as the kids say. Still, count maybe a grand against getting a new mixer/laptop/serato (ok 2 grand) can buy a fuckton of vinyl!
