Thanks Bacon, I really appreciate that.
Especially since all I'm good for, atm, is posting poopy-mouthed dumb ass comments, and an occasional video. Which reminds me...
"Wait. Uh? Say what? BBQ's people are pompous and arrogant? Well then, get the fuck out and
Doowutchyalike, ya fucking drillrod"
Digital Underground - Doowutchyalike

"Home girls for once, forget you got class,
See a guy you like:
Just grab 'em in the biscuits" << @2:27 the way "Humpty" aka Shock-G says it always cracks me up
I can't believe how many old school songs there are that I totally forgot about, but am now seeing and hearing again because of this topic. I'm gonna be wasting so much time sifting through the tube. But I like it :)
OK Last one for now, I think. This song needs to also go in the one for sampling....

I got a new CD last night: Dirty Wood by Dumpstaphunk. A new but solid New Orleans funk group which includes two of the Neville family's next generation.

That's the old Hammond plus Leslie speakers (see:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QwLt-VXHxD0). I love the idea of Leslie, it is a rotating speaker (makes the great wah-wah surrond effect) -- and the cables never got twisted. These speakers are also used for Fender Rhodes pianos, like in this one:

(and of course in Bill Wither's Two of Us, though that's a Korg keyboard)

Aww yeah!
Continuing with Bill:
Huh- the "Lovely Day" embed I was trying to include broke on a DMCA claim. I just shared that on G+ yesterday. ~_O
But I'm still in the mood for some good soul.
Maybe Marvin Gaye will work?

the liner notes of his debut have booker t. (of the m.g.'s) describing how he met bill withers. he eventually came to the studio thinking he was going to watch the songs he'd written being recorded, to find out he would be singing them himself:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B_6EMXiM7B4
roland kirk did an album of soul covers called 'blacknuss' which has an intense rendition of that song on:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xwqOY8iDNVQ
he also does 'ain't no sunshine' on flute/vocal simultaneously, which is mind bending:
