When these guys played close by, we got on a ticket playing with them...and they're not bad musically. I don't get the whole "thug" thing, but they seemed nice enough. Dude has a decent growl.

My hometown boys, Poison Idea. Kings of Punk, so not really metal, but with this album they introduced some very metal shit.

The Melvins. My friend Joe Preston was their bassist back in the 90s.

I think Motörhead was the first metal band I heard. Following that, I got into the the whole "New Wave of British Heavy Metal" thing for a short while. Mostly Judas Priest, Jameson Raid, Tygers of Pan Tang, Blitzkrieg, etc. Then got into Metallica, mostly the first 3 albums, and by extension discovered Megadeth (you know, the guy Metallica fired), Sepultura, Slayer, Kreator and the like. Can't say I was a huge fan of the genre, but it had it's place. I was more into the song structure (metal is very close to classical in many aspects, more-so than most other genres) and the instrumentation. Plus, double bass drums in machine-gun mode are a thing of beauty. The whole "broootz... yeah, pagan sign in the air while we drunk chicken's blood" thing, not so much. Nowadays, I do like me a dose of Meshuggah from time to time.

Here's Meshuggah's Fred T with his mate Morgan Ågren (plays in a prog band called Kaipa).

^^ they both have beautiful 'metal' haircuts.
and wow, jazz metal. lovely. that bit at 4:30 something sent my sub into overdrive.

@ivan, nice song, great production, to get the vocals clear in all that fuzz distortion must be a talent...

Totally missed this topic, I must be getting old too soon.

Though I mainly listen to jazz now, some of my favorite heavy bands are always with me:

- Cardiacs (they're beyond any definition, but they still are my favorite "rock" band)
- Quicksand
- Voivod
- Knifeworld
- Rage Against the Machine
- Kyuss
- Colour Haze
- ...

Not as heavy as some names I've seen here, but hey, I'm not that badass.

Let's change the focus from the guitar to something else, the *drums*.

A classic of Black Sabbath.

A classic of Led Zeppelin.

Ey YU had a nice music scene.

Listen to the drum solo from Serbian Progressive Rock band Smak.
