Distortion Pedal (Metal Corner)

Unread post by machinebacon » Fri Jul 12, 2013 8:46 pm

Well, I know some of you (namely 4) like it rough, so here we can start a loudness war.

I started with this when I was 14 or so:

What was your first record/tape? (Nah, not CD lol)

My tastes really haven't changed much since then...I think Utilitarian was one of the best albums that I've heard recently. Along with Meshuggah's Koloss and Pig Destroyer's Terrifyer...it's been a good last few years for good metal.

There were so many metal bands I listened to growing up I can't remember what my first "tape" was,
probably Judas Priest or Iron Maiden, but today I still can't get enough Pantera.

^ that was my first metal band.
tape was backed with dreamscape 1992 or something

i'm probably gonna get flamed, (for me metal/rock/punk - four guys with guitars/drums) but these guys boil my blood;
my first view of them, explaining the shitty vidcap;

when I was young teens I went to so may metal shows. Priest, Twisted Sister, ACDC, Motley Crue. Best was probably Metallica opening for Ozzy. It was Master of Puppet tour.

My buddies and I used to walk around blasting our boom box with all the above, plus some Maiden, Cinderella (yeah man), maybe some Dokken. And yeah, saw both of them live too. They were openers for Priest and T.Sister I forget who opened for ACDC and Crue. And yes, I was all business in the front, party in the back

@dkeg haha, boom boxes...those were the days :P I got into every band you mentioned except twisted sister, I always hated dee snyder for some reason. Dokken, Motley Crue, Ozzy, Maiden, Metallica and Priest got played to death in my house as well as many others. Scorpions, "early" Van Halen, Ratt, KoRn, Anthrax etc. Then the grunge/alternative bands came around that I loved and still do, like Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Nirvana, Primus.

@wux RATM has always had a mass following as well, not sure if they could be described as metal, probably a subjective thing but still some headbangin shit :) Remember when MTV first came around and they had Headbangers Ball? Good shit back then.

I accidentally opened two windows with that playing, so about a second of 100% delay - now that was fun 8)

@paolo smooth and melodic is nice too, Jazz, Chillout, Ambient, I also like Trance, Progressive, Vocal trance, Goa and Psy Trance among much other music, but just because I've "grown up" since the heavy metal days doesn't mean I no longer like the heavy metal I "grew up" listening to and loving as well.

^ yep. finally i can talk about metal too, now that Rammstein has been mentioned! however, 'Sonne' is later Rammstein, and i prefer their first 2 albums, especially the song 'Buck Dich' ;)

well here's something i can sink my teeth into

first show was queen and all freddie's motherfucking glory when i was twelve
metal?
loud awesomeness though

first album had to be sabbath or zep handed down from one or my older brothers
they had milk cartons full of em

first album i actually acquired through lawful or unlawful means was rush's first album

then a progression through all the metal and hair bands mentioned above
i think i saw every one of them when they came through toronto
grew up with anvil and other local bands

priest still has a soft spot in my heart

and now ive come full circle
saw rush friday night in halifax
man do they look old
three hours long
but they were in better shape than me at the end of the night
why do you think they call it dope right?

and lets hope this scare of lemmy's is just that

Apprentice, which concert of Queen was it? (unfortunately I'm/was a huge fan of them) Must be somewhere before 1981, as they didn't tour the States and Canada after December 1981.

"The Game" Tour. Probably Freddie's best vocal performances ever. You lucky guy :)
