a rock opera (live)

I killed a man 'cause he killed my goat
I put my hands around his throat
He tried to reason with the sky and the clouds
But it didn't matter, 'cause they can't hear a sound

Necrophagist's Onset of Purtification, one of the best guitar-driven death metal albums, once with drum machine backing track:
[yt]xWCVxk7_afQ[/yt]
or with analog drums:
[yt]TBjlwB8exRI[/yt]
full 5 stars, IMO.

Was spending a dark and glorious night lurking 4chan, when an anon on /mu/ linked to this review of Theocracy's Mirror of Souls. I had really only listened to Jazz, Chillout, Upbeat Trance, and Indie-Rock albums up until this time, therefore I put it on the backburner and simply bookmarked the site. Later in the week, I came across a Reddit post on /r/powermetal that again referenced the genius of the record. This lead me to finally giving it a listen on Grooveshark, and my eyes were eternally opened. I found that I also liked a few other groups in the genre, such as Sonata Arctica and Harmony, and tried to spend as much time as I could appreciating the depth of lyrics each artist offered. My skills at discernment are quite rusty, and I still require the opinion of experts to be able to pull apart the skills of individual Power Metal bands. Anywho, here is my fave recently :D

^ that reminds me, i once saw a Christian Hardcore/Metal band play live at our youth centre (can't recall the name, but they were cool). they would play these really loud songs, screaming and everything, then stop to do a prayer, then continue screaming and shouting and trashing... seemed so weird to hear a band that my Christian parents would no doubt condemn as being "of the devil" while they were Christians themselves...

- Christian death ('white') metal
- one-man band

I've always dug Extol (More Christian Prog Metal, more math-y, though. Maybe 13/8 is the time-signature of holiness.)

/r/powermetal has taught me that not all Christian Contemporary Music is shabby. (@wux it does make for a long tag, though XD) I believe that they tend to spend a wee bit more time on the lyrics, tweaking them so that they are able to get a steady line of gigs at church youth groups while also being able to compete with other bands of the same genre for the music market as a whole.

One-man band? Facinating! I will have to give it a full listen ;)

Very nice. Will have to give the rest of their album a listen, as it sounds quite pleasant. I have their Synergy CD, had not the slightest clue that they were "Christian" :D

The whole Death.Black.White shit is 99% about the lyrics or cover arts; the religion has not much impact on the way it is played, more about how it is presented. Funny that most (of these heavier) bands need either religion or politics for their self-fulfillment. As soon as we don't take lyrics into consideration it gets quite interesting...

not embedding following stuff:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rl3-U_xkVAc (islamic death metal)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k9GKsKMHUZ0 (chinese death metal)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GfePbgaScBs (mongolian death metal)
the list is literally endless.
