I'm doing these as I hear them on the radio, mostly Radiolla's Equalyza. I really must donate to that station.

About as modern as I get:

Wayne Smith - Under me sleng teng, if fact this whole album with Prince Jammy is ace 'computerised dub'
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wjw7m-BKmQ8

Rips the shit out of your speaker with this Kid606 mashup.
Kid606 - Catstep (Hrvatski Remix)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EFkPeNNt5l4

went to a weekender where we wrecked a holiday shallet whilst kid 606 was playing, he was quite quiet and reserved actually.

thanks Rhow, slighty drunk ;) I think you might like this one 8)

One more I heard at work, on Equalyza.

This ambient crazyness (in the last third):
The KLF - Dream Time in Lake Jackson

Sampled (and manipulated a bit) for the Chorus of:
Massive Attack - Karmacoma

Not yet drunk so should have me links in the right places ;)

I was listening to Burial today. His two full-length albums (and his EPs and LPs) are quite possibly the finest examples of sample-stitching ever put to wax/metal. Those listed here are just the tracks he sampled vocals from, and even those bits have been pitched, modulated and scattered beyond recognition, but practically every sound in his music is a sample of some sort, from sounds of lighters clicking to the sound of picking up ammo or reloading in a FPS game, or the sound of rain, or robotic effects from Blade Runner or Alien movies - it's like a frickin tapestry made by a madman!! Those who've heard his albums would probably know what I'm talking about.

I used to listen to Burial and a lot of dubstep. Then I moved over to other sounds, but I remember Burial being really good.

@gs: yesssss, have you checked out his latest? it is really quite strange and different (while at the same time it isnt...) but i think it is quite awesome. i heard he actually makes his music in Sony Soundforge, which is not an arranger but a sample-editor. imagine that: making an entire track inside a sample editor. quite insane this guy, quite original too.

@Wux
Yeah, it's not for everyone. I just hope you didn't stop after "Archangel" (second song in the "Untrue" album). That song's rather annoying, but the middle section of the album is very good.

@Gekko
Dubstep in general sucks, mainly because what gets labeled as dubstep these days isn't really so, thanks to crap like Skrillex. Most of the stuff released on the Hyperdub and Mosaic labels (along with Four Tet stuff, whatever label he releases on) are still quite good though.

@Rho
You mean the "Rival Dealer" EP? Yeah, it's a step away from his usual sound. Less nihilist but more panicked with the beats, if that makes sense. Yeah, his first two albums were basically recorded samples + Sound Forge. His technique was pretty voodoo - I recall countless discussions on boards like Gearslutz at the time, with no one being able to figure out how he did it. All I know is that Sound Forge is an absolute pain to use. I like how he didn't use any sequencer or DAW. Pie in the face of modern producers.

^ yes, Four Tet is really good. I find it hard these days to listen to electronic music. I still love Advisory Circle, and many exotica artists in my collection tried electronic stuff. But I think I left it all behind after Björk's Biophilia.

@slobbers: yeah, Rival Dealer. strange but good, imo :)
P.S. Chet Faker - Archangel (Burial Cover) might be of interest. i quite like the song.

[yt]lGKNKf7ebDQ[/yt]

@gekko: the other mixtape i am preparing is going to focus on electronic music - though some of it might get a little loud for some tastes, there should (hopefully) still be a bunch of interesting stuff in there :)
