OPENBOX: Sidbang (i486/i686/amd64) Release News

Unread post by machinebacon » Wed Feb 12, 2014 3:06 pm

LinuxBBQ is happy to announce the follow-up to Darksight/Lightside. This is "Sidbang", a shameless rip off "Crunchbang Waldorf", featuring the newest kernels and optionally systemd. Sidbang comes in four flavours: i486, i686-non-PAE, i686-PAE and amd64. Additionally, there is a RoastYourOwn version for distromakers, coming as i486. Kernels from liquorix and siduction can be installed and upgraded with "get-kernel" and "smxi". Differences to Waldorf are:

- based on Debian sid
- kernels: 3.12-8 (except i486 that comes with 3.12-1)
- no GTK-3 applications, minimal dependencies
- no SLiM login manager (replaced by bbqlogin)
- systemd or sysvinit as init system
- BBQ tools for the terminal
- Network configuration happens via "sudo ceni" !!
- GIMP and GNU Office are installable via pipe-menu
- * xcalc and xdpf replace galculator and evince, mirage replaces viewnior
- preconfigured framebuffer session
- ISO size below 500MB
- RoastYourOwn version: "Crunchbang 9.04 Lite" applications, no GTK3 dependencies
- installable from inside the live session

The login and password are each 'bbq'. We recommend to use "sudo bbqinstaller" to install Sidbang. It is also possible to install via menu entry using the Live Installer if you need to create free partitions first.
After booting into the newly installed system, login as user "root" with the password you provided in the installer. After this, create new users with "adduser <username>". Type exit, and you are good to go.

This release is dedicated to vicshrike who has been following the grill from Day 1 and who is a Crunchbang fanboi :)

Downloading it. I'll replace #! on the two laptops here with this one as soon as I can work on them.
Just to prove something at our teachers. ;)

I think Snowpine is kidding like usual.

Superb Bacon.

Everything a Crunchbanger on Sid dreams of sans the Gtk3 shit.

686PAE and amd64 on the way up, as well as a slight refresh of the non-PAE version. Will make a 486-lite version (like in the old days) later on.

i like how you kept the slightly crappy designchoices of the original Waldorf. it feels so authentic now! ;)
All statements are true in some sense, false in some sense, meaningless in some sense, true and false in some sense, true and meaningless in some sense, false and meaningless in some sense, and true and false and meaningless in some sense.

Fanboi or not, I just love it. My old laptop loves it. And a 64 version on the way!!! This is not the first time you have been reading my lugubre mind. Wow man, the timing for me and my computers who is indeed in need of some refreshing installs is absolutely fantastic. Espescially since I am having a recurring attack of bloatuenza of a very sinister kind. :D So once again, thank you very much:)
