MONSTERWM: Gruffalo 686pae Release News

Unread post by dkeg » Fri Feb 14, 2014 10:51 pm

I'm pleased to announce the immediate availabilty of Gruffalo, a spin off of the Spring Base Release, featuring the Monster window manager.

download Gruffalo here

I have not made many changes to the base. Some notable additions are:
  • * Roaster - I have changed the save directory for Downloads to downloads and the youtube-dl directory to ~/media
    * CMUS - because I like more than moc
    * PMS - changed to download directory to ~/media (it will create a PMS subdirectory automatically)
    * Conky - because potentially my 'stats' script may not work OOTB for everyone, however I would recommend checking it out. Located in /usr/local/bin
    * cmusbar- CMUS output is piped to either Conky or stats. Located in /usr/local/bin
    * Bar - used to display either conky or stats. Look in .xinitrc
    * Compton - for eye candy. Comment out in .xinitrc if you don't like it
    * Dunst and a sample dunstrc ( ~/.config/dunst/dunstrc ). dbus, dbus-x11 required
    * chkconfig - control the processes started at boot. I have turned most off. See original_chkconfig_settings.txt for a view of the origal. See pstree in scrot.
** In ~/git there is directories for monster, bar, and roaster.

** Also Please read the info.txt for other specifics related to Gruffalo, such as keybindings, modifying the monster config.h, and other noteworthy specifics.

Keybindings to get you started:
  • *Alt-Shift-Enter for urxvt
    *Win+v for dmenu
    *Alt+Ctrl+r to quit
Please enjoy!

A big EDIT: I would like to thank all the grillers, Ivan, DJ, wux, GP, rho, and especially, Pidsley for testing and MachineBacon for his support

EDIT 2: Issues? Please refer to BBQ Support/Gruffalo Spin Support section ...

dkeg, this is a beautiful spin. It looks gorgeous and I'm having no problem with monsterwm despite never using it before. Cheers.

Thanks again for the compliments all!

Just as an FYI, I had installed dunst and included my dunstrc as well ( ~/.config/dunst/dunstrc ), but neglected to test it. Apparently it also requires dbus and dbus-x11, which is not installed by defualt. That would make sense I guess, just hadn't looked into it.
