JWM: Chicken Wings 2014 (486) Release News
An old favorite of many, so here it is - the updated JWM flavor "Chicken Wings" (not wicked chinks), built on the brand-new "Summer 2014" base. There are a bunch of changes compared to the previous version, partly:
- 486 kernel from Debian
- a whole lot of new bbqtools
- enhanced JWM menu with moar entriez
- full sysV support
- see the "Dev" section for a detail changelog of "Summer 2014"
An important notice before you randomly click on some links: in the future, BBQ releases will have automatic log-in enabled. This means that this release has a new username (but the same old password). USERNAME: user PASSWORD: bbq
This is for future compatibility. The root account is still there, and has the same old password: bbq
After installation, please reboot, and login as root using the password you entered in the installer. Then, enter "adduser USERNAME" and answer the questions. Finally, exit the root account with "exit" and log in with your username and password. No whining please, this IS the normal way. Your user will be put into all relevant and irrelevant groups.
In the menu (which opens on left/middle/right click on the desktop), you can select system -> xcolors to change the color of your terminal. Failing to do so will show a harmless warning in Xorg.0.log (and leave you with the Debian defaults) ;)
To get moar kernel, use pidsley's "get-kernel" script that you can also find in the menu.
"Chicken Wings" is completely free of gtk/qt dependencies, so installing stuff will be quite a revelation. :)
