EMACS: Emacspeak 40 (486) Release News

Unread post by machinebacon » Wed Sep 17, 2014 3:08 pm

This is a noX remaster of T.V Raman's famous Emacspeak backend, designed as live system. Please refer to the release notes of the original package:

http://emacspeak.sourceforge.net/releas ... -40.0.html

Additionally, there is:
- support for braille devices via brltty
- both lynx and w3m as integrated browsers

Hint: to disable the 'capital' feedback ('disable dtk-split-caps'), press C-e d s

TTY1 directly logs into Emacspeak
TTY2-6 are bash prompts

In the next days I will upload another release which features speakup, for visually impaired users. Emacspeak and speakup together are a bit messy, so I decided to separate these tasks.

By default, Emacspeak uses the Espeak soft synthesizer. It is possible to set it up running speech-dispatcher + speechd + e/flite + mbrola/festvox. This does make more sense in an installed session (sudo bbqinstaller), because the voices take up considerable amount of disk space; other natural voices are either non-free (thus not in the repos) or non-gratis.
