Re: OPENBOX: BORK! Release Notes
This reminds me of Crunchbang and is a kepper on this Dell D620. Very nice I only added Gtkam, Iceweasel, Mtpaint and Obmenu, Mplayer for video and Moc for Mp3 and ogg. Running from a Pen drive this computer has no hard drive.
Thanks for this nice intro to the world of "BBQ".

Re: OPENBOX: BORK! Release Notes
obmenu unfortunately sucks in a lot of python/gtk/glade bloat, that's why it's missing originally :)

Re: OPENBOX: BORK! Release Notes
i remember when i used to use #! i really loved the obmenu and used it all the time, because it was like an upgraded, completely customizable version of the Windows Start Menu.
then i started hanging with this lot, and found a lot of people were simply launching shit through commands. no more making obmenu-entries and finding the right category to put your new program in; nope, simply execute it from a keyboard shortcut, a launcher or the shell. this made sense to me, and i found myself shifting. i remember programs i use much better and launching them is faster and more intuitive than from obmenu, because i dont have to use a mouse or whatever, i just use dmenu (or the shell directly).
so, thanks Jules for leaving out obmenu. i think it makes total sense :)

Re: OPENBOX: BORK! Release Notes
Shortcuts+dmenu is the winner combo for me.
Re: OPENBOX: BORK! Release Notes
I want to use more commandline apps like Moc which is great to use and great sound.

Re: OPENBOX: BORK! Release Notes
that's very true, moc is great indeed. if you want to move to the commandline more, you might want to consider trying a week or more confining yourself solely to the commandline, not using other apps (okay, aside from a GUI browser, which i will simply never stop using). you will learn to survive there quick enough and you learn a lot. we are always here for support, both technical as well as mental ;)

Re: OPENBOX: BORK! Release Notes
The only problem is dmenu not launching terminal apps in an x-terminal-emulator by default, but this can be fixed http://linuxbbq.org/bbs/viewtopic.php?f ... tom#p24815 ;)
And I hereby introduce obmenu for winners:
nano ~/.config/openbox/menu.xml
:)

Thank you that is very good advice I will master Moc and go from there.rhowaldt wrote:that's very true, moc is great indeed. if you want to move to the commandline more, you might want to consider trying a week or more confining yourself solely to the commandline, not using other apps (okay, aside from a GUI browser, which i will simply never stop using). you will learn to survive there quick enough and you learn a lot. we are always here for support, both technical as well as mental ;)

Nice to see you Fog, have fun.
Re: OPENBOX: BORK! Release Notes
Well been with the Bork release a week and still loving it. I haven't had this much fun with a Linux Distro since my early days with Redhat version 8. A great work horse.

...and it just grows on me...so much that I have been thinking of stabilising it!?

@ ivanovnegro: Nice to see you too black ivan :)
@darry1966: My first linux attempt was with Red Hat 7, at the end of 2000. Too much fun. Only a week to find out how to eject the damn cd :P

Re: OPENBOX: BORK! Release Notes
Installed this on my primary desktop at work and pulled the rug out from underneath openbox in favor of i3... I was introduced to LinuxBBQ by way of the Elixir spin on two 22-inch monitors (one horizontal 1900x1080 and the other 1900x1080 positioned vertically) at home... and now having i3 on two even LARGER monitors, with this beeyoooootuffle spin beneath it all, it's both a dream come true and a return to what I know/love/expect with regard to this fine distro. Why BORK! wasn't released under the Beautiful People Licence, I'll never know. I feel sorry for the poor, abused wrists of all those using KDE, Gnome and even XFCE. Thanks to all involved in crafting this, the distro of my dreams!

Re: OPENBOX: BORK! Release Notes
Any plans to make a 64 bit edition of Bork? Also, I can't find the link to the Bakewell iso? Thanks in advance!
Re: OPENBOX: BORK! Release Notes
Bakewell has expired, and no probably not, the existing 32bit shines so there is no need for it either. Try Hot Dog and build yourself.
