Thanks for this Machine Bacon and also dkeg for the lovely appearance. Wonderful to come back to the grill and to taste fine treats again.

Long fire up the grill!

Thanks for the warm welcome back. Of course, I never forgot the grill or the roasters. After getting a new job and having an income I experimented with a Mac for a bit... new stuff to me... but got a bit caught up with it. Still used a bbq spin for everyday work for the last two years. No problems at all.

Recently work have bought staff new computers. They got me a Dell worth 900 quid. My worki is making its own opensuse spin and I'm running that. I'm the test runner in the uni so pretty good. I'm not involved with producing it at all. It's totally locked down and had a few problems with it.

Now my girlfriend has returned the eeepc I need to upgrade it - she never did at all. Also will be my nice thinkpad x121e soon.

And how are yourselves? Seems like you have all been busy!

Hello Dura. Nice to see you. Busy? Not really, just looks like. :) OK, Bacon managed to release some insane spins.

The bbqinstaller script seems to give error and quits saying too many options at the time of partitioning. Can this be installed on non-efi system?

I guess no, but I have to ask just in case... Any Smoothie's 64 bit version or respin planned?

Smoothie has become my favorite BBQ flavor so far. It's the constant victim of my experiments, has become my test bench and the sidstem base reference to always have on hand. The only reason why my main system was built on top of Bork instead of Smoothie is just it's 32 bit only. One of the reasons of this nerdy question.

Aside of that, I want to thank machinebacon for putting this wondeful spin together.

just curious, why the need for 64 bit? Would a pae kernel suffice?

I'd say build cwm on top of http://linuxbbq.org/bbs/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=2122

I'd say build cwm on top of viewtopic.php?f=3&t=2122
Sure, You're right. It's not difficult to mimic Smoothie's defaults on top of Lapis... damnit, I can never write that word correctly,

I guess so for most systems. But the 64 bit technology is finally catching up (it took 10 good years to get there!) I always stuck to 32 bit because in most demanding processings (like image, video or audio editing and rendering) they performed better than the 64 bit counterparts. Get a prempt PAE kernel and that's it. But this is changing. Real world tests reveal that 64 bit is finally performing slightly better. Just slightly, but already better. I should have the link of those tests somewhere. Let me check.

If you have further questions about 32 bit vs 64 bit than I ask you to have that conversation in another thread, preferably /dev/null. ;) We do not want to pollute the release notes.

Around Xmas there'll be an update for the 32 and 64 bit base releases. If X behaves normally again, there'll be a fresh smoothie and a newer bork!
