Just wanted to ask a question regarding my install of proof I try to login on tty1 and what happens is this I put in user name then password and it just hangs not even root@ however if I switch to tty2 using crtl alt f2 I can log in is this a Debian bug or is there something I need to change in config files??

Sounds like tmux is inhibited in TTY1, try editing
~/.bash_profile
and remove everything below
then run "startx" manually. If it doesn't work, please click my signature and write a post there, so we can split the issue from the release notes :)

By the way, release notes say:
After installation, reboot and log in as root, then run "setup" to create new users.
Did you do this after first boot into Proof?

If you want automagic login to X in TTY1, add this to the end of ~/.bash_profile
Code: Select all
[[ -z $DISPLAY && $TERM = "linux" && `tty` = "/dev/tty1" ]] && exec startx

Finally got to explore Proof this past weekend. The live system works beautifully on my crappy HP 14 Chromebook. Will install as primary system on my office machine in the new year.
(Using Popcorn Lite on that machine right now. I know, any spin over 3 months old is an antique, but it's doing fine for my purposes, and I can't really change till the autumn term is finished. Semplice is on the Fit-pc2 at home because I can't get ceni to talk to the wireless device.)
Many thanks as always.

maso, I don't think there is anything wrong with an older install, as long as you have kept it updated.
The problems come, if you do a fresh install of an older release, which does not always update as it should.
If you like popcorn, keep using it, imo.

That makes sense, rust. There's a lot I still don't understand (obviously) about system maintenance. I'm updating, but it's not like I'm doing it knowledgeably. Not yet, anyway.
I may just keep Popcorn going then. Proof is still awesome, though.
