BOXES: LinuxBBQ Cardboard (amd64) Release Notes

Unread post by pidsley » Thu Nov 05, 2015 10:46 am

This one is for the 64-bit whiners. LinuxBBQ "Cardboard" is built on BORK64, and features the blackbox, fluxbox, and openbox window managers with reconfigured menus and tweaked styles. Otherwise under the hood it's all bacon's BORK!, dist-upgraded with xorg on hold, but still using the ancient 4.0 Debian kernel (use get-kernel if you need shiny new shit.)

Autologin and start X is enabled in the live session, but disabled once installed. After installation with "sudo bbqinstaller", login as root and use adduser or useradd to add a user. Edit ~/.bash_profile to enable autostart X (or "startx" from the console prompt and watch your beard grow.)

Blackbox starts by default; edit ~/.xinitrc to change the window manager.

Edit: Thanks pidsley for Cardboard! Has everything I need right out of the box - minus Chromium, which I just switched out Dillo for. Loving it :D

^^ Yup, it is Fluxbox! And it came with a minimal Openbox OOTB as well, which was an unexpected treat.

I left bacon's openbox config from BORK and just added blackbox and fluxbox.

And please don't "purge the rest" without even trying blackbox. It's very small, and you might actually like it. Remember the BBQ Philosophy: "Less is more" "Try the untried" and "Give obscure shit a chance."

That's right, I prefer Blackbox over Openbox (and over Fluxbox anyway!), too.

Pidsley, you "forgot" Matchbox (nah, I don't miss it at all, this ugly shit!) :)

Blackbox is cool indeed, but cannot tab windows. That's a good reason to go Fluxbox ;)
