SpeckDrum Release News

Unread post by machinebacon » Tue Oct 23, 2012 2:31 pm

LinuxBBQ is pleased to announce the immediate availability of LinuxBBQ "SpeckDrum", featuring the Spectrwm window manager. This is version 0.6 (Beta 1), a 32-bit edition based on Debian sid with the 3.5 experimental 486 kernel, fully compatible to Debian.

Aimed at intermediate users, "SpeckDrum" is the first BBQ release with systemd, replacing the old and trusted SysV service manager. Non-free firmware and driver packages ensure best possible hardware detection.
With the bbqsnapshot tool users can create their own remasters.

GUI applications include:
- PCManFM file manager
- xlinks2 browser
- Dillo browser (v3)
- Wicd network manager
- LXappearance theme switcher
- Geany IDE
- Leafpad text editor
- Radiotray radio player
- Dopewars game

CLI applications are:
- tmux, screen, byobu terminal multiplexers
- mc, ranger file managers
- elinks, links2 browsers
- Ceni network manager
- moc, mplayer2 media players
- newsbeuter RSS fetcher
- various other tools and utilities

Note: Be sure to hack the .spectrwm.conf file (and of course the .xbindkeys file) and make them fit your needs! Alt-Shift-Enter opens a terminal, Win-w opens a browser, Alt-F3 bring dmenu.

Please report bugs in the designated section: http://linuxbbq.org/bbs/viewforum.php?f=6

Known bugs:
- no boot in Virtualbox.
- live user is only part of a few user groups. Installed systems put the new user in all needed groups (will be fixed in v0.7)
- shutdown is not assigned to a shortcut. Use the command "sudo shutdown" or "sudo systemctl poweroff" for your own keybindings (will be fixed in 0.7)

Thank you!
