the 32-bits are still on the server, but I am preparing the 64-bit version right now. You find Kielbasa and Kielbasa Ekstra (with non-free packages) as 32-bit here:

They work perfectly as live system and also if installed, though the versions >0.5 come with the Ubiquity installer known from Ubuntu.

The 32-bit with the 3.6-x kernel will follow in the next week, and will include a 3+1 session, replacing the Compiz, LXDE and Openbox spins.

LinuxBBQ is pleased to announce the immediate availability of LinuxBBQ "Kielbasa 64", featuring the XFCE 4.10 Desktop Environment and the Openbox window manager as fallback. This is version RC1, a 64-bit edition based on Debian sid with the 3.6-2 towo kernel, fully compatible to Debian.

Aimed at home desktop users, "Kielbasa" is the first 64-bit BBQ release with systemd, replacing the old and trusted SysV service manager. Non-free firmware and driver packages ensure best possible hardware detection.

downloaded, dd`d `n` installed, looks, feels, and smells good:) nothing exciting to report, I hope some Xfce fans with more knowledge than me turn up with their comments, for me it seems very good!!! have spent most of the time in the Openbox "fallback" mode, tweaking it a little bit to fit my personal preferences, so I do not dare pass any judgement beyond "very good!!!"

Thank you, vic. Every comment is motivation, so don't hesitate to post your observations. The Openbox session is quite equivalent to the XFCE session, so you won't miss anything.
When you need help in creating your own remaster (an ISO you can share or use on different machines), just leave a message. Creating a snapshot is not perfectly documented yet, but has its section in the cookbook.

i can't wait for the 32 bit

so i can put the wifes machine to rest and get to work on my laptop
then the questions start to fly

is there some way i can make a .deb out of that photo program that i installed from source
or do i just source it again on the new install
or is there another way to do it

as for surprises: from my experience, bacon is not only the Grillmeister but also the Surprisemeister. he'll cook you up something you never expected, be sure of that :)

actually I thought you wanted a 64bit for the wifey, sorry :D Yeah, Kielbasa 32 with systemd will come in early November, the last version is just a month old and actually quite stable (my main environment, so I know what I'm talking about hehe). It'll be a 1:1 copy of the 64bit version, ready for the prime in January.

There'll be two surprises in the meantime.

One of them is Burgoo CPC (the brother of Burgoo DosBox) with several thousand (!) Amstrad CPC/Speccy Z81 games pre-installed, based on Speckdrum. The other one, well - wait 2 days, you'll see. Something slightly different.

About the package, it's no problem. We are using sid, so we can install cross-architecture, too (32 bit on 64 bit, thanks to Multiarch, without the ia64-binary) Though I really do not 'recommend' explicitly to compile a qt4-application in a gtk environment. Seeing the packages you need just to build a few hundred kilobytes is breaking my heart. Seriously, test the gtk-apps like Mirage, Geeqie, Shotwell, gThumb, Fotoxx -- there's a reason why certain packages are not available for Debian (and their high quality standards for packaging and maintaining)

It would be a logical choice if you ran razorqt or KDE, and to be honest, I will most probably not pack 'photo' in Kielbasa, as it is out of scope. But with a bit of luck, if you write the developer, he might pack a Debian version (though nothing wrong with the Ubuntu deb, actually).

Does this 64bit Kielbasa have Docky or is that xfce4 panel at the bottom of the screenshot? (no mention of Docky in release notes)

I read on #! forum that you are disappointed with Docky . . . wtf is up with that?

^ The Docky/Mono tandem, in its current state, cause serious lock-ups and crashes with CPU stalling at 100%
In its state right now it is absolutely impossible to add to a 'stable' release, I'm afraid.

To keep the role of an application launcher with custom launcher support and low resource usage I decided to use the native XFCE4-panel (version 10) in XFCE4 and the lxpanel is Openbox to achieve the same functionality.

So far, I have been running Kielbasa RC1 ~100 hours uptime (iceweasel, virtualbox with XP, different tasks simulateously) I had no problems with XFCE4-panel. As comparison, Docky has crashed 3 times in less than an hour with only one terminal open.

I too found that docky was a bit dodgey (no big crash just diassapearance... ) when i installed on mate/compiz.

ISO Link Broken/misdirected???

I appear to be only able to download an iso of pardeenrookvless rc1!
following the link up there d/led it last night.
first time i thought, duh, dd'ed the wrong file, late night...
tried again, right filename - still boots to MATE 8(
downloaded again, tried again, still boots to MATE. 8(

md5corresponds exactly to MATE filename is keilbasa...
and yes i went via bbq ftp /web interface, to check myself the link was in the right place...
i'm trying once again...

Wux, this is impossible. The file size of both ISO is different, the md5sum is different, I have just checked the linked ISO and it runs XFCE. Please keep in mind that I have a slow internet connection so these things take me hours to check :(
