Darkside i686 Release News

Unread post by machinebacon » Thu May 23, 2013 3:02 am

From wheezy to sid: this is a port of the famous Crunchbang 11. Once more, the good 3.9-3 kernel from siduction, i686 only. For 64bit go here: http://linuxbbq.org/bbs/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=340

Minor (major) differences between the real Waldorf and Darkside i686:

- uses systemd instead of sysvinit ("service <servicename> stop|start|restart" still in place)
- uses lightdm instead of SLiM
- added a CLI Applications menu and the BBQ tools (roastyourown might be interesting for some)
- uses live-installer
- added smxi and inxi
- ISO size: 625M

If you like to munch, get this fork of 'Crunch'.

Code: Select all

wget -c http://linuxbbq.org/releases/Darkside/linuxbbq-darkside32.iso
md5sum: 9f5cbbcaf1d0953c0dced6ff251ea54d
Please install via terminal:

Code: Select all

sudo live-installer

Hints:

- the installer is in root-menu -> "System" BUG: please change the entry there to execute: sudo live-installer
- to install, open a terminal and enter "sudo live-installer"
- if slow startup due to DHCPDISCOVERY please edit /etc/network/interfaces and remove all lines except of the first two (those with "lo") -- forgot to clean that up; my bad ;)
- root-menu -> Accessories -> Archive Manager points at file-roller but should actually call squeeze (this is 1:1 the same in Waldorf, guess corenominal put the wrong dependency in the metapackage)

Darkside running awesome from usb. It's been a while since I dug through my old tint2 configs but I always liked this one :)

Awesome job as usual Bacon, I think I'll be editing a partition and installing this very soon :D

Here is the tint2 config in case anyone else wants it...

Ivan, see it like a buffet ;) Take a bite for fun (at least you can check if the 3.9-3-towo kernel overheats too)

@Crispy Bacon: Sure, already downloading. But I think it is the stock Debian kernel that is problematic.
