@beta:

64-bit is always lagging behind a bit, the closest (past) one is Escargot (that's the base for all current 64bit releases): http://www.linuxbbq.org/release_linuxbb ... rgot64.php

I'll pack the configuration for Saltimbocca sometime next week (most probably until Wednesday) and let you know ;)

BTW: as German user you will be happy to find the TV script (a dozen German TV channels run from terminal) ;)

Cool - looking forward to that.
Always try to improve my German, watching TV will help. I only can get German TV otherwise here via an expensive satellite subscription plan.
BTW, I am located in NE.

Nebraska? :) Well, I'm located in China (expat)

I've zerobin'ed the script for you, depends on rtmpdump and a player (mplayer is default, but you can change it to VLC)

http://www.linuxbbq.org/zerobin/?9689ba ... u5Slj1HD0=

Some channels do not work (or sometimes cease to work) and depending on stream quality you need a network speed >2M

Have fun ;)

@gurtid: no, you did nothing stupid - that was me ;) Thanks for mentioning it!

login as: username root,password bbq
then do :
nano /home/bbq/.bash_profile

remove the last line (it's the line with the exec command)
save the file (ctrl-o) and exit (ctrl-x)

then type exit to log out as root

after this you can log in as bbq password bbq

add your user to netdev group:

sudo adduser bbq netdev

enter reboot

then you can login as bbq / bbq and start the window manager with startx

Sorry for the inconvenience. I fixed it (and the upstream bug in Openbox) and the new i686 ISO is already uploaded.

If you can't get it to work with the instructions, please try the new ISO.

Thanks again for reporting!

Looks excellent - burning now - I will try and give some feedback soon.
Keep up the FAB work!

EDIT:Sorry but the download from the releases page is only 203MB??

Code: Select all

EDD: Error 3200 reading sector 202021
Now downloading from the link above...seems more realistic @ 396MB...keep you posted on how I get on...

EDIT#2 CD burnt OK and enjoying some BBQ goodness...

nice :)

I recommend the usage of

wget -c http://______

to download large files and ISO images. It automatically reconnects if a file is not fully downloaded. Another option is uget (uget-gtk) as graphical frontend.
These are more secure than using the browsers built-in downloaders.

A little update on the 486 version of Saltimbocca: right now it is not possible for me to build the 3.6 kernel for the 486 types due to some packages missing from upstream. If somehow possible, please choose to download the i686 version of Saltimbocca in the meanwhile or fix the login problem (login as root, remove last line of the /home/$USER/.bash_profile ) in Saltimobcca 486 manually.
Thanks!

Finally got around to logging in and your instructions worked great - tu.

A couple of very minor issues.

A number of errors thrown up in tty because . . .

1. openbox menu is trying to use gnome icons which aren't installed

2. some pixbuf errors thrown up (presumably due to gtk2-engines-pixbuf not installed)

3. Line 3 in conky config is not valid - border margins thingy

[Edit] I see you mentioned uget (uget-gtk) a couple of posts up - I use uget and it works great (for those interested).

^ Yes, the gnome-icon-theme is not installed because it is only suggested or recommended by apps and not a dependency (in the other releases only lightdm and network-manager-gnome depend on it, and network-manager-gnome is the dependency of network-manager-vpn, that's why it pulls in so many things). The conky error is also non-critical, I have accidentally packed the wrong one (it's from deviantart -- my modified one should have been displayed along the south and not at the top of the screen). I might fix the things and upload the fix sometime. They are quite easy to change for the user, too.

Thanks a lot for your report, gurtid.

The updated LinuxBBQ Saltimbocca 486 is now available. Few minor changes:

- fixed login to behave like in 686
- fixed conkyrc
- added wallpaper "Fishbone" and "Pineballs" by Will Elliot
- added Nightcap dark theme
- repositories enabled
- BBQ-Tools with Upgrade Warning weather report and System Tool (GUI for bbqfix)
- added bc43-firmware as deb packages in ~/firmware folder for offline installation (check README)
- added FirstRunWizard
- various small tools (shopper, grubrepair, bbqasian, desktop-file creator, lmgtfy)

Shopper is a small application that helps you to install alternative software. grubrepair is a script that can fix your GRUB from inside a live system. bbqasian is part of the BBQ System Tool and installs Chinese, Japanese or Korean fonts, Input Methods and manpages. desktop-file creator is a GUI tool to create .desktop files which are usually placed in /usr/share/applications or .../xsessions. The FirstRunWizard is an experimental helper tool adopted from SolusOS that guides the user through the first steps (absolutely optional). The Upgrade Warning tool displays news and bad weather in Debian land via one-click.

known (non)issue:
- on some systems the live-installer needs comparably long to write to GRUB. It is safe to Quit the installer if this last step takes longer than a few minutes. I noticed this behaviour in virtualbox when the target patition was not previously formatted. If you experience problems after booting (GRUB missing -- didn't happen to me though) please boot again from the live media and choose to run 'grubrepair' either from terminal or from the System Configuration Tool in the tray. Your data or other OS are *not* lost.

when the partyparticipants are dancing on the table, the "escargot" comes crawling under the floorboards in shame to reveal all his moronic computer ignorance (me:), since i got wicd to work at first try earlier this week @32base bbq, i decided to try the 64base "escargot" again, when trying it earlier i never got wicd to work, no wireless no wired connection, now i got it working first try! so what the .... i did, or not, back then i do not know, it is at times like this i am seriously reconsidering my whole linux existence, maybe i should move back to xp and stay there, and just maybe, maybe upgrade to vista around 2020???

Vic, if you "go back" to XP, I will go back to XP, too :)

It is absolutely possible that the old 64bit missed some firmware, so don't take it as 'moronic computer ignorance'. Anybody who can get a Linux to run from a USB or CD and install it or use it without completely breaking it is everything else than illiterate. Enjoy the roasted snail!
