OPENBOX: Darkside64 Release News

Unread post by machinebacon » Tue May 28, 2013 4:31 am

This is a pork/fort of the world-famous Crunchbang 11 (Waldorf), ticking away on a 3.7-5 kernel in Debian Sid.

Features all the good stuff like GIMP and Abiword/Gnumeric, and even Slim as display manager like in the original #! release (not LightDM here). The only addition is a fat (!) CLI apps menu and the BBQ tools.

Both Darkside releases come with systemd, smxi, inxi. See also http://linuxbbq.org/bbs/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=317 for the 32bit variant and more info.

would love to see DarkSide64 get a little more like DarkSidei686 (with systemd, lightdm and smxi and inxi)

so all the good stuff :)

so there's only one thing left to say: Congrats, keep up the good work. ty

Hey bacon, thank you for this nice port. I am a great fan of corenominals work!
#! is my favourite stable debian distribution.

So, one question: Why do you have not build this iso with systemd, lightdm etc. like the 32bit iso?

Cheery,
Chris

Thanks Chris,
this one is with systemd and slim :) Reason: I have read the #! forums and there were many many people who wanted systemd for Janice (that's good for us because we use systemd anyway, I thought), and around every 2nd user wanted to change SLiM to LightDM.

To be as democratic as possible, I made both Darksides working with systemd, but one using LightDM and the other one using SLiM.

There's no specific reason why this or that one uses lightdm or slim. It's of course possible to install both on both :D

Cheers!

Hello,
sorry to disappoint you, but Darkside64 does indeed come with systemd (and smxi and inxi) - the only difference is SLiM:)

Welcome on board!

Dat list of apps :-P Cool beans. Now I have something to recommend to my #! Enthusiasts IRL. Keep the grill going! :-)
