KDE64 Release News

Unread post by machinebacon » Tue Jun 04, 2013 3:45 am

Start roasting on a minimal KDE base? WTF you say? Well, you're actually right. This is the amd64-version of a brand new base system, and most fun of all:

- systemd
- no display/login manager
- no (!) added apps except of the CLI/BBQ tools
- effects, bells, whistles etc. disabled

Filesize: 512MB
Download link: http://linuxbbq.org/releases/KDE/linuxbbq-kde64.iso
wget links:

Code: Select all

wget -c http://linuxbbq.org/releases/KDE/linuxbbq-kde64.iso
md5sum: a63b2f700692cbc8cf1441f3800a2588 linuxbbq-kde64.iso

user/pass: bbq

Happy KDE4-roasting, screenshots follow later ;)

Wallpaper by Irene, and the color scheme is LuckyEyes.

Nice, doesn't get much more minimal than that for KDE. Awesome wallpaper too :)

It's hard to believe that KDE can be lightweight. Will try though. I mean- you made Cinnamon lightweight.

^ Nah, KDE is not lightweight, I just shaved as much off as possible. On a netbook: forget it. On an older desktop PC: put the tower into the fridge.
KDE and I will never be friends.

Looks good, i get an error message (something about Nepomuk dependencies). Is Nepomuk really needed ?

Nepomuk is for indexing files, tags, comments, mails, ratings etc. (using Strigi).
You don't need Nepomuk. But it is one of the better features of KDE - if you use it regularly and consistently.

Usually all you have to to is create the directory it's fussing about. I've seen it on many a KDE distros.. That being said, I gotta check this thing out since LM KDE for some reason went a bit wonky this week. (I didn't think I saw any sun spots)

Bummer.. I just downloaded the iso (both from the link and wget) and it won't boot in VMPlayer.
(md5sum checks out)

^ Sorry, I never test on VM Player :(
On Virtualbox it does work (enable PAE)

How about dd if=from_file of=/dev/partition bs=1M onto a USB stick? ;-) I'll send you a LinuxBBQ-branded USB stick!

By the way:
KDE SC 4.10.4 is now available in kdenext/unstable, to use it, make sure you have this line in any of your sources.list files:
deb http://packages.siduction.org/kdenext unstable main
