LXDE: "ENOUGH!" (amd64) Release Notes

Unread post by machinebacon » Thu Jun 06, 2013 6:38 pm

LinuxBBQ "ENOUGH!" (amd64 only) is a full-featured Linux desktop operating system, featuring the slick LXDE desktop environment and the multimedia-specialized Liquorix kernel. This releases contains applications from the experimental sources: GIMP and Inkscape packages are newer than those in the Sid repos. As GUI editors, geany (with plugins) and bluefish for HTML editing are provided. ENOUGH! sees the introduction of Fotoxx and Darktable as photo editing and archiving software, Blender for creating 3D models, Openshot for editing videos, and Glade as GUI builder. Pidgin is added to connect to various messaging protocols. Remote filesystems can be accessed with Gigolo and vncviewer. In the office section we can find the desktop wiki Zim, the addressbook application Dlume and the PDF editor and notebook tool Xournal. There is no traditional office suite included: abiword has proven to be very unstable, while LibreOffice takes up a lot of space on the installation media. Users are encouraged to use "roastyourown" or "bbqstart" to add their desired packages, the CUPS printer system, further development tools like git and mercurial, or the LAMP stack.
Furthermore, the CLI applications section now contains 50 programs (25 of which are terminal games), with applications like irssi, mutt and newsbeuter, hexcurse and - as new addition - the xwpe programming environment.
The ambitious user checks the ~/bin folder to find the Solarized colour theme as zip package and borks his system with smxi and a lot of love.

Installation:
1) download the ISO file and burn it to CD (DAO, <4x) or copy it to USB (dd, unetbootin, livelinuxusb, etc)
2) boot the created media (certain BIOS require changing the boot order)
3) simply hit Enter in the boot menu and wait around 20 seconds
4) username:bbq password: bbq
5) if you wish to install, right-click the desktop > Install LinuxBBQ -- you'll need a partition of ~2.5GB size, of course more is more.

Networking:
Since version 2.0, LinuxBBQ comes with Ceni as network manager only. This keeps the number of dependencies low while providing the same functionality.
1) Set up your network by right-click on the desktop > CLI/BBQ Tools > Ceni Network Configuration Tool
You can also start ceni via LXDE's menu icon > Network > Ceni
2) Enter your password. Probably ceni will complain that the terminal window is too small. Simply maximize the terminal and click into it.
3) Use [Tab] to navigate through the fields, [Enter] to select -- be sure to remove the configuration if you set up your network device again.
4) For those who prefer a GUI solution after successfully running Ceni, please use "Roastyourown" from the right-click menu > System, and pick Wicd or network-manager-gnome in the Network section of Roastyourown.

General Setup:
- Touchpad users, please open a terminal and:

Code: Select all

upd
ins xserver-xorg-input-synaptics
Alternatively, download the Revision 1: the fixed ISO is available here.
- In the right corner of LXDE Panel you find a LinuxBBQ icon, click it and select System Hospital. You can set your timezone, keymap, localization and other stuff there. Take a look!
- Adobe Flash Plugin is not pre-installed anymore (since it is no longer updated by Adobe). You can install it manually with

Code: Select all

ins flashplugin-nonfree
or choose Gnash as alternative.

This one won't, but I am busy creating an en_US-only, localized version minus Blender, which will most probably fit a CD.

Edit: It does. Replaced the Iceape Suite with Midori/Sylpheed/Xpn and dropped w3m (kept links2 instead), and everything is bright.

@Jens:

Code: Select all

sudo update-grub
ausfuehren. Wenn kein vorhandenes Linux existiert, bitte Bescheid geben (oder von einem vorhandenen LinuxBBQ den Befehl sudo grubrepair ausfuehren.)
3) Aus Neugierde: kannst Du mal dein

Code: Select all

sudo blkid && sudo fdisk -l
posten?

You can restart your PC now". Wie gesagt, muesste trotz allem gehen. Ich vermute das Problem liegt beim vorhandenen Windows auf Partition 1.

Where is the BBQ tool to disable screen blanking in 'Enough'?
How would I run this from the terminal?
I am experiencing a desktop 'total freeze' after about 10 minutes usage on this machine...still investigating...

Neil,
that's /usr/local/bin/moviemode
It only does a xset -s off and xset -dpms
About the freeze, do you use a theme that supports GTK3.8? Should be fine with a pure GTK2 theme or Numix.
Else please post error logs, xsession-errors, dmesg in a new thread of the support section. Thank you.
