MAIN EDITION: Bass (amd64) Release Notes

In the past this was Boner, now it's Bass - the updated no-X version of the BBQ, bumped to the new 3.10-4 kernel. This is the MAIN Edition of LinuxBBQ, for 64bit CPUs.

So, if you want to start from nowhere, grab yourself this base, and

1) log in as bbq with password bbq
2) prepare your hard drive (create a partition of around 3GB minimal size - the installed Bass weighs in at less than 1GB, but you want to add apps and of course X)
3) sudo bbqinstaller
4) after installation you will be asked to provide the root password - it won't be echoed!
5) reboot into the new installation
6) log in as root with your root password
7) create the users manually (adduser or useradd, please refer to the manpages)
8) if needed, create groups
9) install the needed packages. You can run "sudo roastyourown" if you want a dialog/menu-based package selector
10) if wished, create an ISO with "sudo bbqsnapshot" (remember: the /home/$USER/ directory is the live session, while the /etc/skel/ directory will be the session of the new users)

Notes:
- the graphical live-Installer is provided, but you will need to add an Xserver on top.
- the bbqinstaller will work in both tty and X.
- if you want to use the bbqtools, install 'yad'
- there are no wallpapers and no icons - you're free to brand your own
- the only themes provided are FlatStudio and Numix

Thanks, interesting. Downloading it now. I don`t know if I got the skills, but if I don`t, then I have to get them somehow, so why not start with this one :)

Sure, I`m just testing Pony_Muncher and Absinthe, with the intention of keeping one of them, so I will proceed to bass64 when this is done. I have actually done Debian netinstalls before, so if it`s in a simmular range of difficulty, then I should have a good chance to at least get it into a working state. The worst part of the Debian netinstall was to get my wifi working during the install. But I have succeeded a couple of times, but I don`t remember how I did it :)

My intention for my own iso is to keep it as minimal as possible, while I still get the functionality and the apps that I use. 100% made for me and my needs. So if I`m able to reach my goal in that regard, is another matter all together. It`s often tempting to take the easiest route, and thereby getting a crapload of packages that isn`t needed and never used.

Well, I don`t expect to much out of my first attempt. I think that we should lower my expectations and say that if I make it into a working install at all, then I have finished level 1 successfully. :D
