Mother Release News

Unread post by machinebacon » Mon Dec 10, 2012 7:18 pm

LinuxBBQ is quite happy to announce the availability of Mother, a 64-bit XFCE4.10 desktop designed to be wrapped nicely as redistributable Xmas gift for the boss in the house. This release is a snapshot from December 10, 2012. It is as usually based on Debian/GNU Sid, and it contains the 3.6-9 custom kernel by Mister Towo. The XFCE 4.10 base is spiced up with a sane selection of applications:
- Iceape Suite (Browser, Mail Client, Composer, Address Book, Chatzilla) including Adobe Flash and Adblock Plus
- LibreOffice Suite (Writer, Calc, Draw, Impress) including OpenJDK/IcedTea
- Pidgin Instant Messenger
- Deadbeef audio player
- GNOME Mplayer + mplayer2 media player
- Mirage Image Viewer
- Radiotray radio player
- Searchmonkey desktop search
- Gdebi, Synaptic, Update manager
- webapps for Youtube, Google, Wikipedia
- BBQ tools including snapshot tool to create a redistributable ISO
- simplified Openbox session
- Bluetooth supported

Please note: create the folder /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections as root if you encounter problems with nm-applet

Code: Select all

sudo mkdir /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections

where is kexo for receiving his wallpaper-glory? he's a shadow figure so it seems, buying tripods, making great wallpapers, never speaking in public again :D

Had to find this thread since I didn't see it on the "Releases" (unless I missed it)

Nice job... I booted up the liveUSB.... hooked a cable to my laptop... I guess I missed it, but is there a howto for hooking Ceni up to my wireless network? I didn't see that Ceni saw the wireless adapter (tho it looked like the driver was installed).
In the meantime, I'll check siduction's site, too.

@bacon: what i am waiting for is a video where you give commentary. preferably in a mishmash Hungarian-German-Dutch-English-Chinese + any other languages you know :D

Hinto, depends on your card. I guess (wild!) that you need to blacklist certain cards' modules or rmmod another. It would be then shown in Ceni. Remember to de-activate network-manager in Ceni, because we use nm-applet by default. Feel free to open a thread with the lspci -nnk output of your network adapters (including "Kernel driver in use")

Rho: won't happen :)

@mb I saw that (about nm-applet), but like I said, it didn't see my wireless adapter, so I stumped along in ceni.
I'll open another thread as needed.

I just installed mother on my laptop... It seems that it takes a real long time to boot if I don't have a wired connection (I have a wireless one).
Is there way to keep from having to wait for the wired timeout?
