I3: Honey (i686) Release News

Unread post by machinebacon » Fri Oct 11, 2013 5:27 pm

As requested, here is a super-slim version of i3, coming with the latest 3.11-4 kernel (non-PAE). Built on the "Pidsley" base, there are no GTK applications (!), the terminal emulator is xterm, we also find tmux as multiplexer, xlinks2 as browser and vim as editor. "Honey" is low on resource usage and dependency count, and recommended for the intermediate user.

I have stolen dkeg's configuration files for this remix (thanks!), they are sourced in the live session only. If you decide to install "Honey" on a prepared partition, the new user will get a default i3 startup. The mod-keys for the live session are Alt / Ctrl, as some keyboards have no 'Logo' key. Ctrl-Alt-Backspace shuts X down, 'poweroff' in a terminal shuts the PC down.

The bbqinstaller (sudo bbqinstaller) now supports the choice of a 'login name'. If there's somebody who is willing to test the bbqinstaller, please report back. In any way, the login as 'root' is possible.

Thanks wux!
I recommend to prepare the partition with something like gparted from an existing system, if you don't feel comfortable with fdisk. Honey is pretty small once installed (~850MB) btw.

/upload finished, happy sucking!

cool, and a well deserved release.

I have the colin release built with cwm and i3. I wish I could have given you a nice new clean version of my configs.

If any one is interested, I'll do some clean up tonight and push them up to github. I'll post back once completed.

Don't worry, it does what it should in a live session. When installed, the user is on his own anyway :)
When you push the new configs to github you can edit my first post and add your link there! I'll sure be sleeping in a moment...

(unpacked rising, shape decreasing? Weekend's coming! :))

Downloaded and installed. The installer worked well. This will also make a good X base for installing other window managers.

joe edit was a surprise for the sudoers!
I shockingly fumbled the password. for the user 8)
dkegs user configs seems to be installed, not the default. which is cool...

I just cleaned up and pushed out an i3 config, along with conky files. This is my current i3config on the colin spin. colors are set to match NumixBrown.
