SPECTRWM: Cobham (i686) Release News

Unread post by machinebacon » Fri Oct 18, 2013 2:06 pm

Billy Cobham recorded his epic debut album "Spectrum" in 1973, with Tommy Bolin on the 6-string and Jan Hammer on keys. "WTF" you say? You are right. WTF.

LinuxBBQ Cobham is a portable note-taking desktop for students. We have the full VIM set with addons included, plus the LaTex packages for Markup and Markdown, Mutt, HNB notebook, wyrd and calcurse calendars, etc etc. Included is also GIT and zsh as default shell. ohmyzsh delivers the zsh configs, antigen is preinstalled.

Cobham is featuring the Scrotwm/Spectrwm window manager, comes with the 3.11-5 kernel and NO GTK APPS at all. The clever BBQer knows that:
- .xinitrc should be hacked for startup apps
- .spectrwm.conf must be hacked to make it feel like you want it
- this is a CLI centered release that uses very little RAM and boots/shuts down in seconds.

Username and password is "bbq", the installer can be started with "sudo bbqinstaller". Filesize is 354MB, installed it scratches 1.1GB.

Ah, its just "xorg-server xinit spectrwm" added on top of no-X, nothing special, plus the 50 CLI apps.
