I think for my next Slackware installation experiment, I will try doing so with no gtk or qt apps/libraries. Either that or I will just install killx and build from there.

Edit: killx is 64-bit, my work boxes are 32. No killx love here. :(
After reading this, I decided to try the fb option. I can't really tell the difference between it and a console, except that the date/time is displayed in the upper right corner. Is there a simple cookbook that tells me what I can do? I have read Debian Joe's thread; it is way over my head.

Loving n00b killah live cd.

Great choice of radio 'Boot Liquor'...excellent!

"Music that showcases the ongoing hopelessness in your otherwise dreary life. Americana roots music (or what they used to call Country Western) at its core, stuff that's both musically and lyrically unique. Consider it a musical intervention for your bedraggled soul."

What is the font in n00b killah?...beautiful!

Seasons Greetings to the BBQ crew!

Tim, I believe this explains it:
A serial console only has the ability to send and receive ASCII characters and escape codes, which are interpreted by whatever terminal emulator you're using (minicom, Hyperterminal, PuTTY etc.). More information on terminal emulation here: Terminal Emulation

The framebuffer console inplements a Linux console on your system's physical display. Because the display is rendered using a pixel map, it is also able to allow graphics to be displayed.
And more here:

That's ohsnap. It's also used in the "Sideways" release.

Hello to all, I am lovin the n00b ki11ah, but the internet browsing is a bit slow with a 10 sec delay. It could be an ipv6 issue? Thanx!

Hello Ivan II :)

That might be a reason. Check the following file as root:

Code: Select all

sudo nano /etc/sysctl.conf
and add this line:

Code: Select all

net.ipv6.conf.all.disable_ipv6 = 1
After a reboot IPv6 is disabled. Also, try the "dillo" browser to see if it makes browsing quicker (usually it does):

Code: Select all

ins dillo
Welcome to the grill and have fun!
