Re: Argentina78 (MATE) Release News
Look at that. MATE, LibreOffice, and GIMP, and it still fits on a CD. Nice work bacon. Downloading now.

Re: Argentina78 (MATE) Release News
Yeah, wux gets the extra point for Gauchito. This release is dedicated to the makers of MATE, the project lead is from ARG so lets make him happy :D
Thank you all for d/l. The strange app names are those that come from the MATE team (caja = nautilus, pluma = gedit, engrampa = file-roller) and they are in the MATE bundle, so all credit goes to them.
And pidlsey, I was also quite surprised to find LO/GIMP/MATE/Pidgin/WINE fit a CD. :wink!:

Re: Argentina78 (MATE) Release News
Tested on usb flash/thumb/stick.
With Dell desktop, no issue boot and run live, no issue to browse network.
However , on NEC laptop, with intel wireless chip, no issue to get into internet.
Trying network browsing, hang up as you see on the scree-image
http://i49.tinypic.com/29wi13.png
then I suspend the laptop, and resume, try again..
same issue, this time error shows up
Unable to mount location
DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken.

Re: Argentina78 (MATE) Release News
Is it possible that the wireless card uses DHCP to acquire an IP, or the router is set to "DHCP for wireless"? Did accessing the shares via wireless work on other installations of Linux in the same environment and router settings like now?
..gnutella..
Re: Argentina78 (MATE) Release News
Router is set with DHCP for all LAN/Wlan clients.
Some installed Linux OSes can browse network share via wireless, with the same set up.
In fact, Now I am using the iso I made with LinuxBBQ-xfce-rc1,
wayne@linuxbbqxfce:~$ uname -r
3.6-6.towo-siduction-686
and test on the same NEC laptop.
A strange thing I observe, when it run Live from USB flash, wireless works after entering passphrase, typing this message now.
It cannot browse network shares!
however, when I suspend, and resume, wait for a while, wireless made connection automatically, and now I can browse network!
may be something is 'done right' after suspend, LOL :)
did this twice and repeat. perhaps I would do that on argentina later...

Re: Argentina78 (MATE) Release News
This seems to be related to network-manager-*. If you have timne and interest, we can find out what the problem is (there are many things involved into the problem you describe - ACPI, policykit, network configuration, router setup)
Can you try to run 'sudo ceni' from a terminal (slightly enlarge the terminal to make Ceni fit) and disable network-manager inside of Ceni, then reconfigure the card (also inside of Ceni)

Re: Argentina78 (MATE) Release News
last line said Activate Network Manager.
should I interprete this as network manager is not activated?

Re: Argentina78 (MATE) Release News
This means when you click it, ceni will clean up the /etc/netowkr/interfaces file and activate network manager.
Please choose your wlan0 card in the upper part of the window and hit Enter. If you are asked, "remove the configuration". If not, simply enter the details for the wlan card, like passphrase etc. Use Tab to jump from one field to the other, and Enter to select.
If you happen to lose connectivity, restart Ceni and activate network-manager again.

Re: Argentina78 (MATE) Release News
ok, it asks me to delete /var/run/wpa-suppli..../wlan0
I did so.
then on root terminal ceni, blah..blah...key in passpharse, now I am back with wireless so I can post.
try network browsing again, same thing, stuck on Openint "windows Networks"...

Re: Argentina78 (MATE) Release News
What if we try it with Gigolo?
sudo apt-get install gigolo
I don't use Windows shares, but I suspect that something has to be written into fstab (?)
http://www.uvena.de/gigolo/
Forgot to ask: is the firewall turned off/configured right? (sudo gufw)

Re: Argentina78 (MATE) Release News
hi machinebacon,
installed argentina to laptop.
1. firewall is not touch, default set as 'off' so it should not block network browsing
2. checked gvfs-backends was by default installed
3. added gigolo, error out as 'no workgroups found'
Now I plug in wired LAN
See that wired LAN has connection automatically
and good thing is Caja can browse network :) out of the box.
4. now I unplug wired LAN cable.
5. and wireless LAN took over.
surprisingly, network browsing stays working....
Not sure what actually made it work.. LOL :)

Re: Argentina78 (MATE) Release News
I don't know, too :) Remember this is the old nautilus file manager, so you will probably find bug reports about this behaviour on earlier trackers or on MATE's bug tracking for caja.
The whole scenario could be also related to 'hotplug' in network-manager; this "when I plug in and out" is a sign, somehow :)

Re: Argentina78 (MATE) Release News
Not sure where this fix should go, I'm still on RC1.
I enabled the screenlock funtion (via the screensaver setup page) but - password not recognised??? turned it off, googled, found this;
http://forums.mate-desktop.org/viewtopi ... word#p2008
which after finding unix_passwd in /sbin/ running this as root, fixed it up;
