EVILWM: Sushi i686 Release News

Unread post by machinebacon » Sat Jan 25, 2014 10:32 am

Dat grill is back! Though, this time with something that shall be stored cold. Sushi is a very light edition with evilwm as window manager, and completely free of gtk/qt applications, as wished by the minority :) To prevent panicking grillmeisters, Sushi comes with the utterly outdated 3.12-8 towo kernel. RAM usage is somewhere below 50MB on most <1.5Ghz systems. "Sushi" will run at blazing speed even on the oldest hardware. And yeah, it's 32bit only. This is a non-PAE kernel by default, to grab yourself another kernel, use the new 'get-kernel' script or remember: you app/kernel of choice is just an apt-get away. No kidding.

This is built on the framebuffer release (Laoganmadouganhuiguorou) so after logging in you can choose to run a framebuffer session ("fb") or start evilwm ("startx")

What's new?
- backgrounds by the yellow little bird (kiiroitori), thanks for the stunning wallpapers :) -- see /usr/share/wallpapers
- bbqgit (Grillers Hub) is a tool to quickly clone github repos of some active grillers (dkeg, debianjoe, pidsley, xaos52, johnraff, wuxmedia, ivanov and the official linuxbbq repos) to ~/git -- if you want your github added, post here: http://www.linuxbbq.org/bbs/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=940
- frechmaid (by GekkoP), get-kernel (by pidsley) and passwux (by wuxmedia) are now available as default apps! -- many thanks and kisses for your contributions!
- PMS (poor man's spotify) is the newcomer in the media section
- chkrootkit for the pussies careful is now included, too
- paletterx grabs all colors from an image, dkeger can set these for the Xresources
- the newest Debian Handbook for Admins is installed for offline reading.

Everything else is more or less the same: we have a whole bunch of editors (vi, emacs, nano, mcedit), text browsers (elinks, links2, w3m), file managers (ranger, mc, vifm), shells (bash, csh, fish, ksh, zsh) and terminals (rxvt-lite, stterm, tmux), media players (mplayer2, mpg123), stream players (pms, raffles, bbqradio, shell.fm), office tools (calcurse, wyrd, wordgrinder, sc, tapecalc, bc, PIM), CLI games, networking tools (irssi, centerim, nload, ceni), system tools (htop, iftop, powertop, sucrack, john), image manipulation (imagemagick) and some more.

The configuration file for 9menu is now split off and can be edited on the fly (press Alt-F2 for 9menu)

sharp 408MB as usually, at http://sourceforge.net/projects/linuxbbq/files/evilwm/

Stiffness level:
