AMIWM: Amigo (i686) Release News
Everybody needs a friend. No, this time it is not a MATE spin. wuxmedia had the idea of Amigafying a Debian base, so I quickly whipped up something we can work with. This is a beta, but can be considered a fully working release.
What's new? Nothing special, there's a handful of programs that fit the look and feel of the old Commodore system, for example the file manager "Worker", or the graphics app "Grafx2". But there are some other little surprises, like the Amiga 500 emulator "fs-uae", the great "tecnoballz" (hey seabiskit!) or the carpal tunnel causing "trackballs". The kernel here is again 3.12-8, "Amigo" is based on "Shark Fin", so sysV is the init system. Installable via "sudo bbqsnapshot".
It's a fun spin, IMO, so give it a go!

366MB, installs to a sharp gigabyte.

Yay! This is gonna rock, just need some crude BBS style gif's, a MOD (Pro)tracker and i'm 14 again 8)
This is like 'Distrolette while you wait'.
Please note amiWM supports virtual desktops like the original (with a keypress, too - IIRC), pretty cool IMO
Forget those munchers failing to spin up a #buntu (that's even a better name right there)
You want Aubergine pickles with dat?

Re: AMIWM: Amigo (i686) Release News
FYI: This project has officially decreased productivity by >80%, because everyone in my office is highly interested in technoballz high scores.
Fantastic project.

TechnoBallz!! - runs sweet.
Even the Term colours are mostly right.
that emulator. even has that FDD clunk!
Have to start the ISO on VGA, normally it's ok on default.
I'm playing with it right now, lets hope it's a quiet day today :)

^ good to know, thanks! Can you try, for once, booting without 'vga=...' and 'video=' at all (that would be the quiet option minus 'vga=current')?

^ that boot code works fine and dandy.
To complete the picture, the other options I tried (default, i915) booted to FB fine, but wouldn't startx...
Worker is a perfect DIRopus reminisce
My hero. (After Bacon, of course) Author of AmiWM. Looks like an Amiga user, has that air of ultra cool, and he's a Swede.

think that photo was taken last year 8)
I had those exact same 'Aviator' glasses, I wasn't cool enough to have tinted windows though.
actually he's still active on Github.

Someone who codes something like AMIWM may wear any glasses he wants to. `nuff said.

Holy crap, I'm downloading this. I grew up using an Amiga. My second computer after my C-64. I've played around with http://aros.sourceforge.net/ some too.
Very cool!
