Other people's scrots

Unread post by bones » Fri Jan 23, 2015 7:49 pm

Rather than sticking these in the individual scrot DE/WM catagories, I felt like this deserved its own thread (like the ugly ones! ;) ).

So, show some appreciation for OPS (Other People's Scrots)!

Damn, I like that scrot. Looks sophisticated for some reason.

Great idea, bones! I have a few scrots by others outside of the BBQ that I have really respected. I'll have to find them again :D

Edit: per rho's suggestion, here's the sauces: The OS X one is by earsplit and the mvwm is by Kamiru_ on Reddit, though I originally saw the scrot on /g/ in the Fall of 2014.

cool idea. if possible, please link to the place where you found the scrot or give a username or whatever, in the spirit of "credit where credit's due".

/u/uhlolwut posted a fantastic OSX scrot on /r/unixporn that I thought anyone who doesn't browse Reddit would enjoy. Here is a webm of his workflow: http://a.pomf.se/fccmjz.webm

He explains how he gets it to work here, which was nice. I don't have OSX available, but if I had to use it for work or some such thing, I would definitely play with it a little.

But, as /u/VRMac noted, "Best OS X I've seen, but it needs more freedom."

Am I allowed to dump a few? First one is by fog from the Ubuntu forums, rest are from 4chan so I haven't the slightest clue of their sauces.

fog definitely has a good eye. Be sure and check out her awesome photos, many of which adorned early bbq release desktops and bootsplashes:

@simgin I hadn't even noticed that... it's those little details that really make a scrot a masterpiece.

@bones Oh, wow. You're not kidding; that sort of talent in photography is original to be sure. It pisses me off when I go to art shows with my Dad (he's is a bronze sculptor) and "photographers" set up next to us are swapping photos or joking about where off the internet they pulled that photo or another. I wouldn't dare buy most of what I see being sold in their booths (mostly for the reason that I couldn't afford it and would overdraw my checking account) but also because so much of it wasn't even taken by them. fog's photography has a feel and coherence that I almost never see out in the markets; hopefully her talent is widely appreciated :)

She is definitely an artist and I can say when a scrot is from her.
