Kexolino

Unread post by kexolino » Wed Mar 04, 2015 12:25 am

The continuation of my previous i3 plums:

The colors are still the same, but the bar is simplified and I'm trying out this big PragmataPro font (you can get it from here; thanks to Slartie for the link). The advantage is that I'm not going blind like when I'm looking at Terminus :P

^ could you do me a quick favor and tell me what you did to get the font to work in your bar and terminal emulator? (and which terminal emulator is it btw?) i am currently working on my fonts and find it quite difficult to figure out.

looks really good, btw. surprising font, but pleasant.

@rho:

First off, install Infinality (follow Black Ivan's font task force if on Debian). I think if you install Infinality from that repo, you will be able to choose between multiple hinting styles (OS X, Linux, etc) and font rendering styles (Ubuntu, Windows, ..). On Arch however it's changed, and I can choose between these:

Code: Select all

### Available styles:
### 1 <> extra sharp
### 2 <> sharper & lighter ultimate
### 3 <> ultimate: well balanced (default)
### 4 <> darker & smoother
### 5 <> darkest & heaviest ("MacIsh")
I use the 5th setting.

Other than that, I have this in my Xresources:

Code: Select all

Xft.autohint: false
Xft.antialias: true
Xft.hinting: true
Xft.hintstyle: hintslight
Xft.rgba: rgb
Xft.lcdfilter: lcddefault
The terminal is Termite (and I was told on IRC that it wants to pull quite a few Gnome deps on Debian. Uncool bro, uncool), and it's nice because of the simple config. The font size is 10, so pretty big, but the bigger the font, the better it looks (size matters, yiss). It just takes a lot of space, that's why small bitmap fonts look better on these small resolutions...

edit: I should probably mention that I was trying the replicate the font look from here, but I think it's still not the same as there.

thanks Kex. completely forgot about Ivan's Font Taskforce, that was very helpful. after a night and morning of playing around, i finally managed to get some fonts changed. still far away from a scrot so you guys will need to be patient :)

Thanks. I'm starting to miss theming a floating WM though, might pop in to the Fluxbox neighbourhood for some roasting.
