the format of urban_1 is non standard. Apologize for that. I can adjust and reload, but I won't be able to do that until tonight (EST).

I only see urban2, nom is looking for urban1. It doesn't look right though.
Color 0 should actually be bg
color 8 should be color 0
Color 8 seems to be missing altogether
fg should be the same as white

Sorry to be a stickler, I'm sure you wouldn't expect less

@machinebacon
Whatever I did to .xinitrc I was thorough about it. There was no .xinitrc even in the /etc/skel folder.
I dug some more and I did find a folder inside /etc/x11 titled "xinitrc".
Inside that folder I found a "xinitrc" (not ".xinitrc") file.
It seems pretty sparse compared to the other ".xinitrc" scripts I've seen, so I figured I would show it to you.
I am pretty sure this is not the droid I'm looking for, but I am sorely deficient in the knowledge of things script, bash, etc, lols.
Maybe it is. Maybe I build the script from this?
@dkeg @franksinistra
Thanks! I just use that script, right? from directory ~/xcolors "git pull origin master" and that will add dkeg's urban_1 to the dkeger? Then just choose from there?
I hate to admit that I'm still a little afraid of git, but I am 0/3 successful at cloning from there, lols.
I will probably throw a party on the day of my first git clone success! XD

^^ I renamed it to just plain urban. that is the original. But yes, that command to pull is correct.

it's a hidden file. your fucking graphical file manager has "show hidden files" ticked off. use the terminal please.

ls -a /etc/skel
ls -a ~

I bet my hairy ass that it's there.

this. this is why we emphasize the terminal time and time again.

anyway, these are rookie mistakes for sure, so don't feel bad about them. from what i'm reading, you're doing alright for yourself. gotta make mistakes to learn :)

xinitnodot.png
But it's not. I always keep it open to view hidden files. :(
I had to have done something to it. The xinit file you see is a copy of the xinitrc file I found in /etc/x11/xinit/ directory.
But, since it's there (and a copy) can't I just rename it ".xinitrc" put in the base script, and send a copy of that to /etc/skel- with a period in front of it, of course- and add on to the base script what I need in ~/.xinitrc ?
I know I probably del'd it- when I get overly tired I get completely stupid ( I lost my keys, then my phone, then my wallet that same day- found them all, though).

Damnitallwithasideofshitz! Machinebacon, you are right, and I did it again! :( I frickin' installed the new xorg! I knew it had to be something I did, lols! Thank you! I can stop looking for the monster under my keyboard now. :)
So, I need to start over. Take my base and make the backup- something I completely forgot to do in my rush to get that desktop up and running!
Then install the base xfce4, making sure it doesn't pull in the new xorg.
I thought I was safe with x through the Jessie repos, but I thought wrong! I will go at this a little more cautiously.
I even checked through my LMDE filesystem- it was their first release, and updates have been sparse (flash,etc)- and when I saw the .xinitrc file in there I knew it was probably something I added, but I completely forgot about my i3 and my first Mate experiences.

kde.png
I built a kde desktop on top of RYO. I have tried to keep it minimal as kde can be, and now I might try to trim off some of the programs that came along for the ride, although besides what looks like a bit of overkill in the multimedia department (two music players and a video player as well as vlc came installed), the software seems pretty minimal as is.
I've only added some games, and I've held off adding any more until I get some files moved over to see how it handles things.
This Konqueror browser is doing ok. I'm gonna take her for a ride around the interwebz to see if I need something different.
Curiosity got the best of me, and I haven't played around in kde land much, so that's why. If I hate it I will be throwing up another *de right quickly! :)

^ Looks great! I personally find KDE 4 easier to slim down than GNOME 3. Konqueror is a more than adaquate browser, IMO, and if I need something more I might toss on qupzilla. I'm not a VLC fan, and I think that if I wasn't too lazy to do the research I might be able to figure out how to exclude that from the metapackage :D

I wanted to try smplayer out- I had heard it mentioned in the forums, and I figured it must be at least a bit slimmer than vlc. Will have to side by side them with a favorite dvd one day. :)
