Re: noo_b_nomnoms- scrots
^Checking out some scripts to try just that with the next one, lols! I know I'm gonna change my window manager this next time. I've gotten a little too cozy with openbox. :)
<Shouting way back up the list> Thanks, machinebacon! You are right, of course. :) I had totally forgotten about that wonderful program. I have got to remember the bbq tools! I sometimes forget about them in a panic, and then this type of unnecessary chaos ensues. :(

Re: noo_b_nomnoms- scrots
I haven't played with Crystal in a while...the wm! This wm is so darn full of options you could play with just the menu options for a week! One option I have noticed that is missing is the "no buttons" option- that would be really nice because I'm just not real fond of the button options they have, and I would rather use keybindings and keep the tops of the windows free of them.
But, man! The options!
The wallpaper came from a ddg search 'wallpapers' and a short scroll through the images.
I am checking out the Vivaldi browser. It is as good if not a little better than its parent, which is Opera (duh! Just look at it :-/) , but I would dare say for a first stable release it is coming along nicely!
*Edit* Also, Rule 34 ;)

FVWM is a fine WM, but the options are countless :)
You can (auto)hide some buttons: http://fvwm.org/documentation/faq/#auto ... er-windows

Goodluck nomnoms, it cost me several days to make a decent theme (and not too special) for fvwm.

Re: noo_b_nomnoms- scrots
Fvwm themes ends up having the heft of a large scripting project. Balls to the wall customization, not defaults. Alas, not one for the "less is more" crowd :-/Theo wrote:Goodluck nomnoms, it cost me several days to make a decent theme (and not too special) for fvwm.
Re: noo_b_nomnoms- scrots
True, but some WM seems to need it (those bastards) :Pmachinebacon wrote:the best theme is no theme :D
@nomnom I found this one on box-look: http://box-look.org/content/show.php/cl ... ent=151854
No windowdecoration, no buttons, panels, bars. It may be useful as an example.

Re: noo_b_nomnoms- scrots
woo-hoo! Thanks again, Theo! :) Let's see if I can not funk this up, lols 8-))
I kind of have it almost perfect for me, tbh, but a minimalist look is still preferred ;)
Currently I'm back on i3 for a bit. I want to see if I can get that nice setup I had with Violator going.

Will add that volume icon to ~/.xinitrc (without all the fun we had the last time, @machinebacon, lols), and I will be removing some stuff I don't need down there to clear up the clutter a bit. I am seriously considering a custom window border color, and I hope I haven't lost those ohsnap fonts with the crash I had last month.

I would remove the window decoration altogether. You probably know your username@hostname anyway ;)

^^Thanks, machinebacon!
^Agreed, wuxmedia! You mentioned the "g" word, yikes! I will definitely do the 'border 1px'.

Re: noo_b_nomnoms- scrots
I roasted my own desktop as a backup because I have had an issue with the Jessie upgrade with several of my desktops (including two non-bbq distros- Q4os and Debian Gnome), and I absolutely did not want to lose this one.
So I removed all of my music, pics, etc, from ~/, cleaned up with bleachbit, and "sudo bbqsnapshot".
A 1.1Gb dvd was written (which I tested) and then I did the upgrade.
After the upgrade I rebooted into the same problem- X was hung. Every 120 seconds I would get a message telling me that a kworker was hung. This was the same message I got with every single upgrade.
I had one more option before I was forced to see if this beast would actually install, and it was something rust_collector had suggested: "Have you tried installing a new kernel?"
I have not, so just for giggles I installed the Liquorix 686-pae kernel and rebooted.
X was back! Everything was better than before.
So I haven't actually tried to install this behemoth, but as a live system it works great!
I might actually try this out with the upgrade and the Liquorix kernel on RYO- a Crystal desktop, gdm3, spectrwm and openbox sessions, multimedia (flash and libdvdcss2), and a choice of text or graphical file managers and image viewers, etc- a real bloatmaster for noobs!
JK! Way too much work!

Re: noo_b_nomnoms- scrots
^Lols! That's a tough one! Then I might have to let go of my neat little gdm3 login screen with session chooser ;) Seriously, I wonder if I only had Crystal, gdm3, a Vivaldi browser, and maybe mplayer2 (instead of vlc) could I make that fit on a cd? I am going to try this with RYC, so maybe just the very basic stuff at first, make sure it all works, then bbqsnapshot it and if it comes in at under cd max, let everything else to be installed after the initial install?
I just don't know if that much can be squashed that small...

You could also change compression method to save a bit of space, but maybe that's cheating.
