Hi there folks!
A brand spanking new install of sidbang. ceni to set up network and sudo apt-get update /apt-get dist-upgrade
update-initramfs: Generating /boot/initrd.img-3.12-8.towo-siduction-686
live-boot: core filesystems devices utils memdisk udev wget blockdev.
Setting up testdisk (6.14-3+b2) ...
dpkg: ../../src/packages.c:226: process_queue: Assertion `dependtry <= 4' failed.
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg exited unexpectedly
I'm googling, but haven't found anything fixy-like yet. Could someone give me a hand on figuring this out?
Thanks for your time!

Sidbang is old. It is almost guaranteed to fail at a dist-upgrade from a new install at this point. Use something newer, like popcorn.
(edit) a quick ixquick search gave me this:
http://camdez.com/blog/2006/01/24/dpkg- ... ry-failed/
But you will most likely have other problems with sidbang. Use something newer, like popcorn.

Oof, very sorry about that. I had no idea that would happen as in my tiny sphere of linux-knowly I thought sid would always be sid.
Thanks very much for taking the time to help!
I am off to grab popcorn!

Sid is always sid, but it also changes rapidly. If you try to dist-upgrade a snapshot from eight months ago (aka sidbang), you will have a huge upgrade, and this can result in major failures. If you install a more recent version and keep it updated, you will be happier.

Thank you very much for your help, pidsley. If I can ask another question, once running popcorn via live-cd(in a VM), how would I start the installer? I can't find it in the menu.

Of course as root ;)
0) open terminal
1) sudo bbqinstaller
2) after installation: reboot
3) login as "root" with the password you provided during installation
4) adduser USERNAME
5) logout as root ("exit") and login as USERNAME

Thank you guys very much for your help. I've got it installed and finally figured out the vbox guest additions for sid(I think). Now, I shall tinker.

Oh yes, forgot to mention guest additions. Usually for the network, you want to use "sudo ceni", just FYI ;)

Hi machinebacon,
many thanks for your good work.
I like sidbang. It is very cool, but "the fucker" is outdatet.
My question: are you doing in the future a new version of this great version?
Greetings from Münster/Germany
