To get the quickest possible help, mention the exact release codename in your post (uname -a is a good idea, too). Due to the lack of crystal balls, attach the output of lspci -nnk if you encounter hardware problems.

Hi Daniel, first make sure sound in the "sound menu" is not muted.
If not muted run command

Code: Select all

sudo alsactl init
Then see if sound is working. If still no sound please post output of

Code: Select all

 "lspci" and "uname -a"

Only one kind of onboard soundcard is known to need external drivers which are already packed in BBQ.

Open a terminal, enter:

Code: Select all

lspci --nnk|grep Audio
If it shows "Maestro" or "ESS" skip to Option 2.

Code: Select all

bbqfix
Option 1)
Choose "Reset and test soundcard" and press Enter
Wait a moment, then a mixer opens
Press Cursor Up and Down to regulate the sound, choose channels with Cursor Left and Right
Press Esc when you finished

Option 2)
If you use a Maestro/ESS card (lspci --nnk|grep Audio) you need to choose "Fix Maestro/ESS soundcards" in the menu. After this, go through Option 1)

In Proof you add a volume icon to the panel by right-clicking on the panel and adding the mixer.

Code: Select all

ins xfce4-mixer

at any rate, you can just open a terminal and type 'alsamixer'. plus do what other people said already :)

I tried that and nothing works. All i hear is a big numing sound, like a big amplifier but not actual sound here.

I tried all the above tips

Any other things I should test or try?

The humming you hear comes from your microphone and/or mic boost.

Check post #2, we can't guess what your sound card is.

http://linuxbbq.org/wiki/index.php?titl ... a_question

Code: Select all

lspci -nnk |grep Audio
post output here
open terminal

Code: Select all

fixsnd
set sound levels.
