wallpaper. login/out probs cinnamon install {mostly solved}

Unread post by wuxmedia » Wed Jan 16, 2013 8:56 am

check it out;
Image

every reboot.
probably my machine, it's the same acer laptop.

weird huh?

EDIT:
hmm can't seem to set any wallpaper...
appears to be two different wallpaper tools,
background - in settings, on it's own... with a fancy monitor picture.
settings - cinnamon settings - background. same sort of thing, looks different.

saw some things on the mint board no answers there.

EDIT EDIT, unrelated; if i logout to see if any changes take place i can't log in say there's been an error.no biggie as i hardly ever logout.

Looks like graphics driver (3d session). Can you try the 2D session and check if it works there? You see that conky paints, so as test #2 please disable conky in the startup and then try the regular login.

btw both wallpaper settings tools do the same thing, one from GNOME (pulled in by Cinnamon) and one from Cinnamon.

Edit: was is the same when booted from a stick? And now that I think about it, is it possible that this is the 2D session because it fails to load the 3D session? That would show the error you mentioned. Which gfx card do you have?

Another edit: have you changed the window decos or does it come like this? If you haven't changed it, seems there is something messed up with the default WM too. Looks like compiz, judging from the deco.

#1 a 3d session? how do i change that?
#2 will do.
#3 i figured, I thought there could be a conflict.

from the USB it was fine, i even changed the wall to something on a mounted volume.

hmm maybe it was that, i mucked around with the USB, then installed.
I'm thinking the install pulls the files from live session? or the hardwired snapshot?
possibly unclean install...

gfx card;

Code: Select all

00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS, 943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03)
00:02.1 Display controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS/GME, 943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03)
i have changed the windecs, its greybird, i think.

Compiz, moi? you know me too well. 8D
tried compiz (but after i posted this) doesn't work logs straight out...

off to work now....

re my question about i915 I tried it on usb and i won't again. 8)

i think a quick re-install should fix it. if not...well i guess you'll hear.

I've not installed the i915 versions either. I was having some problems with Boner when going between i915 and Default, with ceni constantly going through its process in Tmux and causing me to hard reboot.

If it kills the conky in background, try to play with some values to adjust it in 2d mode. Hell, long time that I played with conky in desktop environments. 3d works fine here with Intel, do not ask me if it is i915. :eek:

own_window_type normal

I think this value in conkyrc made it work in 2D but not in 3D.

own_window_type desktop

made it work in 3D but not in 2D lol

About the i915 thing: it's like a modeset/nomodeset specially for the Intel card. Check the #! forums, el_koraco's posts related to kernel boot parameters for Intel cards.
