Google your problem first. Check the Wiki. Read the existing threads. It's okay to "hijack" an existing thread, yes! If your problem is not yet covered, open a new thread. To get the quickest possible help, mention the exact release codename in your post (uname -a is a good idea, too). Due to the lack of crystal balls, attach the output of lspci -nnk if you encounter hardware problems.

quick question about grub2 [solved]

Unread post by wuxmedia » Wed Jan 23, 2013 12:30 am

just a quickie, everytime i install a new spin, grub is installed on /dev/sda
this changes the splash, boot order etc. everytime i get a grub update via apt-get, it does the same.

how can i get it to stay with the one i like. (MATE spin)
install grub again from that partition?

from then on, not bother installing grub everytime, only update grub from MATE?
(IIRC the apt-get update - grub update, can be skipped)

tl;dr - I would like a pretty splash at boot, what boots into the same thing everytime.
please...8)

Assumption: you have one hard drive and several spins installed.
The way of the exploding fist: install new spin without GRUB. Boot into the system with the sexy boot screen, sudo grub-install /dev/sda && sudo update-grub. The new spin will be found and added.

Splash (the stuff that comes during boot) or GRUB background image? The latter is easy, put an image (640x480) into /usr/share/images/desktop-grub.png
..gnutella..
