[RESOLVED] ceni doesn't recognize wireless card after update

Unread post by Dr_Chroot » Thu Jun 04, 2015 2:57 am

So I ran a quick post-install

Code: Select all

sudo apt upgrade
after setting up Ceni with my local wifi and installed some packages then powered off for dinner. When I boot back up, Ceni doesn't seem to recognize wlan0 0_o

My last upgrade was involved with such sundry junk as this:

Code: Select all

Start-Date: 2015-06-04 00:41:09
Commandline: apt upgrade
Install: libhogweed4:amd64 (3.1.1-3, automatic), libnettle6:amd64 (3.1.1-3, automatic)

End-Date: 2015-06-04 00:42:33
I don't see drivers for my wifi card (a Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300) which should be the 'iwlwifi' package. Is it coincidental that this followed an update?

I did and nothing new came of it :/ It looks like you had similar issues; should I try to pull the stable package?

Edit: Hmm. Tried firmware-iwlwifi_0.43_all.deb and nothing new happens. I'm gonna hold out hope for an up and coming bug fix :D

I did, but my firmware was actually upgraded, yours does not seem to have. Were there other updates that involved your firmware before this latest and prior to you having to perform a reboot?

Try installing a different version, sure. Obviously, something changed.

Can I see the

cat /var/apt/history # you can grep this for "firm" or "iw" or so
lspci -nnk |grep et

(btw, the problem that dkeg had is fixed in the recent bbq versions both 32 and 64, that's why there is 'no upgrade of the firmware package' - please remove the manually installed one and get the one from the repos. You might enable siductions fixes repo, then apt update and install their fixed version [which was the one that didn't work for drew])

Edit:
1) what is your uname -a ?
2) also edit ~/.Xresources to point the last line to your user directory (or run username2xres) and reload ('xrdb -merge ~/.Xresources' or run 'dkeger')

Happened to me too, I just added "ifup wlan0" to /etc/rc.local, before the "exit".

Okey dokey, so after having much of my day eaten up helping my neighbor trim her tree as a consequence of damage done by the t-storm last night, I have returned to my battlestation to wage holy war on my wireless card.

First off, in reply to MB, here is my full /var/log/apt/history.log: http://paste.debian.net/plain/201795

I am trying GekkoP's idea now (and this one also looked promising: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugrepo ... =681872#35)

This has to be this?

http://linuxbbq.org/bbs/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=2132

But I guess you already know this by now. :)

I posted it in some thread but did not make it official. Thanks Bacon.

^ Indeed, it is that. After my last post on this thread I noticed that one and installed the two packages MB recommended; all is good.

udev-215-18 and libudev1_215-18 from Stretch did the trick for now; will update when everything is fixed in Sid.

Thanks for the log:

udev:amd64 (215-18, 220-4)
libudev1:amd64 (215-18, 220-4)
libsystemd0:amd64 (215-18, 220-4)

So there's the problem indeed. Remember to downgrade libsystemd0, too.

Before this thread was started, I worked around my wlan0 being undiscoverable by ceni (same issue here) on my netbook by specifying wpa-ssid and passkey in /etc/network/interfaces and that had it connecting just fine. Thanks for the fix, ya'll.

+1, after playing and installing Bork Openbox last night I was stuck with same issue, I honestly didn't want to go through the pain and just simply re-installed Bork and walla!!! I must say that I updated with no consequences, it was when I upgraded my system that my wifi broke and ceni wouldn't recognized it!
