papilyn; please search through the forum, especially the bug thread, before you post. It more than likely had to do with updates, not the additions installs.

Had you already configured your /etc/network/interfaces?

If so, you should be able to bring up your network. If not, we should be able to put one together for you.

No worries. You could also use wicd-curses, which is a bit more in line with the bbq philosophy. I'm sure at some point ceni will be fixed. The issue is the udev change to systemd-udev. You can attempt to revert that back to udev then place on hold
http://linuxbbq.org/bbs/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=2131. This is the piece you want
udev-215-18 and libudev1_215-18 from Stretch did the trick for now; will update when everything is fixed in Sid.
You can go here and grab the .deb from jessie , which is v 215-17 and here for libudev1. Or wait for the eventual fix in sid

I have not bothered to do this myself. You having fun yet?

Just to point out though. If you had already configured your network with ceni, then you have a /etc/network/interfaces file which should work by using ifup. You only need ceni the one time. Now if you move around to different locations, true, would need it.

Okay, I just tested. It works and I can now see hardware in ceni. You will need to install libudev1 first.

Code: Select all

cd /path/where/saved
sudo dpkg -i libudev1_215-17+deb8u1_i386.deb
sudo dpkg -i udev_215-17+deb8u1_i386.deb
Place udev and libudev1 on hold to prevent updating again

Code: Select all

su
echo "libudev1 hold" | dpkg --set-selections
echo "udev hold" | dpkg --set-selections
Test it out. On upgrade you should now see

Code: Select all

The following packages have been kept back:
   libudev1 (215-17+deb8u1 => 220-6)
   udev (215-17+deb8u1 => 220-6)
and ceni should now also show your hardware!

Enjoy.

Little nympho-info:

if network is managed by network-manager, ceni won't let it configure.
if ceni is in use, network-manager won't work because the /e/n/i is not empty and the "managed" flag in (IIRC) /etc/NetworkManager/whatever.conf is not set.

But glad it works now!

Thanks MB.

papilyn, Great! Glad to hear. Ha! Thank you friend, I appreciate that. Beer sounds good. I'll virtually have one in your offer tonight.

Little tip for those who have a shiny white terminal in the newer releases:

- either run "username2xres" after creation of your new user (lazy version)
- or edit the last line in your ~/.Xresources to point to /home/YOUR_USERNAME/.Xresources_colors (safe version)

After that,
- either reload xrdb by issuing something like "xrdb -remove && xrdb -load ~/.Xresources"
- or run "dkeger" and pick a new theme
- or log out and back in

;)
