[SOLVED] i3 colours not working

Unread post by Titan » Mon Jul 13, 2015 3:45 pm

Hello grillers

Im trying to configure i3, and so far ive got the colours I like but they are only being applied to some elements of the i3 statusbar.
Below is an image of the bar and the 2 config files :
https://www.dropbox.com/s/mvjrd6pjc0rd9 ... t.png?dl=0

Can anyone tell me why the colours only work for some items in the bar?

~/.i3/config

Code: Select all

# This file has been auto-generated by i3-config-wizard(1).
# It will not be overwritten, so edit it as you like.
#
# Should you change your keyboard layout some time, delete
# this file and re-run i3-config-wizard(1).
#

# i3 config file (v4)
#
# Please see http://i3wm.org/docs/userguide.html for a complete reference!

#startup programs
exec --no-startup-id feh --bg-center /home/modyn/images/alienware.png

#modifier key - set to alt
set $mod Mod1

# Font for window titles. Will also be used by the bar unless a different font
# is used in the bar {} block below.
font pango:monospace 8

# This font is widely installed, provides lots of unicode glyphs, right-to-left
# text rendering and scalability on retina/hidpi displays (thanks to pango).
#font pango:DejaVu Sans Mono 8

# Before i3 v4.8, we used to recommend this one as the default:
# font -misc-fixed-medium-r-normal--13-120-75-75-C-70-iso10646-1
# The font above is very space-efficient, that is, it looks good, sharp and
# clear in small sizes. However, its unicode glyph coverage is limited, the old
# X core fonts rendering does not support right-to-left and this being a bitmap
# font, it doesn’t scale on retina/hidpi displays.

we shall be needing your i3config to determine further. my first guess would just be the syntax somewhere.

try something like this in the .i3status.conf:

Code: Select all

general {
        colors = true
        interval = 5
output_format = none

color_good = '#aed49b'
color_degraded = '#bf6382'
color_bad = '#515151'
}
should do something. May want to get rid of the output none though, that kills all the colour :)
gets a bit confusing all the conf files.

^ thats brilliant wux, worked like a charm!

although it means i have to wait a whole 1 second for the bar to show up after hitting startx, unlike before where this was instant. :D
